Proverbs 21
1 A king’s heart is like channeled water in the Lord’s hand: 2 All a person’s ways seem right to him, 3 Doing what is righteous and just 4 The lamp that guides the wicked— 5 The plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit, 6 Making a fortune through a lying tongue 7 The violence of the wicked sweeps them away 8 A guilty one’s conduct is crooked,(C1) 9 Better to live on the corner of a roof 10 A wicked person desires evil; 11 When a mocker is punished, 12 The Righteous One(F1) considers the house of the wicked; 13 The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor 14 A secret gift soothes anger, 15 Justice executed is a joy to the righteous 16 The person who strays from the way of prudence 17 The one who loves pleasure will become poor; 18 The wicked are a ransom for the righteous, 19 Better to live in a wilderness 20 Precious treasure and oil are in the dwelling of a wise person, 21 The one who pursues righteousness and faithful love 22 A wise person went up against a city of warriors 23 The one who guards his mouth and tongue 24 The arrogant and proud person, named “Mocker,” 25 A slacker’s craving will kill him 27 The sacrifice of a wicked person is detestable— 28 A lying witness will perish,(C1) 29 A wicked person puts on a bold face,(C1) 30 No wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel 31 A horse is prepared for the day of battle,(C1)
but the Lord weighs hearts.(C1)
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.(C1)
haughty eyes and an arrogant heart(C1)—is sin.
but anyone who is reckless certainly becomes poor.(C1)
is a vanishing mist,(F1) a pursuit of death.(F2)(F3)(C1)
because they refuse to act justly.
but the behavior of the innocent is upright.(C2)
than to share a house with a nagging wife.(C1)
he has no consideration(F1) for his neighbor.(C1)
the inexperienced become wiser;
when one teaches a wise man,
he acquires knowledge.(C1)
he brings the wicked to ruin.
will himself also call out and not be answered.(C1)
and a covert bribe, fierce rage.(C1)
but a terror to those who practice iniquity.(C1)
will come to rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.(C1)
whoever loves wine and oil will not get rich.(C1)
and the treacherous, for(F1) the upright.(C1)
than with a nagging and hot-tempered wife.(C1)
but a fool consumes them.(F1)(C1)
will find life, righteousness, and honor.(C1)
and brought down its secure fortress.(C1)
keeps himself out of trouble.(C1)
acts with excessive arrogance.(C1)
because his hands refuse to work.(C1)26 He is filled with craving(F1) all day long,
but the righteous give and don’t hold back.(C1)
how much more so
when he brings it with ulterior motives!(C1)
but the one who listens will speak successfully.
but the upright one considers his way.
will prevail against the Lord.(C1)
but victory comes from the Lord.(C2)
