Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a mocker,(C1) beer is a brawler; 2 A king’s terrible wrath is like the roaring of a lion; 3 Honor belongs to the person who ends a dispute,(C1) 4 The slacker does not plow during planting season;(F1) 5 Counsel in a person’s heart is deep water;(C1) 6 Many a person proclaims his own loyalty, 7 A righteous person acts with integrity;(C1) 8 A king sitting on a throne to judge 9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; 10 Differing weights and varying measures(F1)— 11 Even a young man is known by his actions— 12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye— 13 Don’t love sleep, or you will become poor; 14 “It’s worthless, it’s worthless!” the buyer says, 15 There is gold and a multitude of jewels, 16 Take his garment, 17 Food gained by fraud is sweet to a person,(C1) 18 Finalize plans with counsel,(C1) 19 The one who reveals secrets is a constant gossip;(C1) 20 Whoever curses his father or mother(C1) — 21 An inheritance gained prematurely 22 Don’t say, “I will avenge this evil!” (C1) 23 Differing weights(F1) are detestable to the Lord,(C1) 24 Even a courageous person’s steps are determined by the Lord,(C1) 25 It is a trap for anyone to dedicate something rashly 26 A wise king separates out the wicked(C1) 27 The Lord’s lamp sheds light on a person’s life,(F1) 28 Loyalty and faithfulness guard a king; 29 The glory of young men is their strength, 30 Lashes and wounds purge away evil,(C1)
anyone who provokes him endangers himself.(C1)
but any fool can get himself into a quarrel.(C2)
at harvest time he looks,(F2) and there is nothing.(C1)
but a person of understanding draws it out.
but who can find a trustworthy person?(C1)
his children who come after him will be happy.(C2)
separates out all evil with his eyes.(C1)
I am cleansed from my sin”?(C1)
both are detestable to the Lord.(C1)
by whether his behavior is pure and upright.(C1)
the Lord made them both.(C1)
open your eyes, and you’ll have enough to eat.(C1)
but after he is on his way, he gloats.
but knowledgeable lips are a rare treasure.(C1)
for he has put up security for a stranger;
get collateral if it is for foreigners.(C1)
but afterward his mouth is full of gravel.
and wage war with sound guidance.(C2)
avoid someone with a big mouth.(C2)
his lamp will go out in deep darkness.(C2)
will not be blessed ultimately.(C1)
Wait on the Lord,(C2) and he will rescue you.(C3)
and dishonest scales(C2) are unfair.
so how can anyone understand his own way?
and later to reconsider his vows.(C1)
and drives the threshing wheel(C2) over them.
searching the innermost parts.(F2)(C1)
through loyalty he maintains his throne.
and the splendor of old men is gray hair.(C1)
and beatings cleanse the innermost parts.(F1)
