Proverbs 22
1 A good name is to be chosen over great wealth; 2 Rich and poor have this in common:(F1) 3 A sensible person sees danger and takes cover, 4 Humility, the fear of the Lord, 5 There are thorns and snares on the way of the crooked;(C1) 6 Start a youth out on his way;(C1) 7 The rich rule over the poor,(C1) 8 The one who sows injustice will reap disaster,(C1) 9 A generous person(F1) will be blessed,(C1) 10 Drive out a mocker,(C1) and conflict goes too; 11 The one who loves a pure heart 12 The Lord’s eyes keep watch over knowledge, 13 The slacker says, “There’s a lion outside! 14 The mouth of the forbidden woman is a deep pit; 15 Foolishness is bound to the heart of a youth; 16 Oppressing the poor to enrich oneself, 17 Listen closely,(F1) pay attention to the words of the wise,(C1) 22 Don’t rob a poor person because he is poor, 24 Don’t make friends with an angry person,(F1) 26 Don’t be one of those who enter agreements,(F1) 28 Don’t move an ancient boundary marker 29 Do you see a person skilled in his work?
the Lord makes them all.(C1)
but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.(C1)
results in wealth, honor, and life.(C1)
the one who guards himself stays far from them.
even when he grows old he will not depart from it.
and the borrower is a slave to the lender.(C2)
and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
for he shares his food with the poor.(C2)
then quarreling and dishonor will cease.(C2)
and gracious lips—the king is his friend.(C1)
but he overthrows the words of the treacherous.
I’ll be killed in the public square!” (C1)
a man cursed by the Lord will fall into it.(C1)
a rod of discipline will separate it from him.(C1)
and giving to the rich—both lead only to poverty.(C1)Words of the Wise
and apply your mind to my knowledge.18 For it is pleasing if you keep them within you
and if they are(F1) constantly on your lips.19 I have instructed you today—even you—
so that your confidence may be in the Lord.20 Haven’t I written for you thirty sayings(F1)
about counsel and knowledge,21 in order to teach you true and reliable words,
so that you may give a dependable report(F1)(C1)
to those who sent you?(C2)
and don’t crush the oppressed(C1) at the city gate,(C2)23 for the Lord will champion their cause(C1)
and will plunder those who plunder them.
and don’t be a companion of a hot-tempered one,(C1)25 or you will learn his ways(C1)
and entangle yourself in a snare.
who put up security for loans.(C1)27 If you have nothing with which to pay,
even your bed will be taken from under you.(C1)
that your fathers set up.(C1)
He will stand in the presence of kings.
He will not stand in the presence of the unknown.(C1)
