Events prior to the Lord's Second Coming
1 Now, dear brothers and sisters,[a] let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him.
Some People Will Believe a Lie
1 Our Lord Jesus Christ is coming again. We will be gathered together to meet Him. But we ask you, Christian brothers,
The Man of Lawlessness
1 As to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we beg you, brothers and sisters,[a]
1 But we request you, brethren, - in behalf of the Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him,
1 And we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and of our gathering together unto him:
1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling to meet him, we beg you, brethren,
1 We beseche you brethren by the commynge of oure lorde Iesu Christ and in that we shall assemble vnto him
1 And we ask you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together unto him,
1 And we ask you, brothers, in regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together to Him,
1 We beseke you brethren by the commynge of or LORDE Iesus Christ, and in that we shal assemble vnto him,
1 Now we conjure you, brethren, that with respect to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our being assembled with him, 1-3 Now, friends, read these next words carefully. Slow down and don't go jumping to conclusions regarding the day when our Master, Jesus Christ, will come back and we assemble to welcome him. Don't let anyone shake you up or get you excited over some breathless report or rumored letter from me that the day of the Master's arrival has come and gone. Don't fall for any line like that.
3-5 Before that day comes, a couple of things have to happen. First, the Apostasy. Second, the debut of the Anarchist, a real dog of Satan. He'll defy and then take over every so-called god or altar. Having cleared away the opposition, he'll then set himself up in God's Temple as "God Almighty." Don't you remember me going over all this in detail when I was with you? Are your memories that short?
6-8 You'll also remember that I told you the Anarchist is being held back until just the right time. That doesn't mean that the spirit of anarchy is not now at work. It is, secretly and underground. But the time will come when the Anarchist will no longer be held back, but will be let loose. But don't worry. The Master Jesus will be right on his heels and blow him away. The Master appears and—puff!—the Anarchist is out of there.
9-12 The Anarchist's coming is all Satan's work. All his power and signs and miracles are fake, evil sleight of hand that plays to the gallery of those who hate the truth that could save them. And since they're so obsessed with evil, God rubs their noses in it—gives them what they want. Since they refuse to trust truth, they're banished to their chosen world of lies and illusions.
13-14 Meanwhile, we've got our hands full continually thanking God for you, our good friends—so loved by God! God picked you out as his from the very start. Think of it: included in God's original plan of salvation by the bond of faith in the living truth. This is the life of the Spirit he invited you to through the Message we delivered, in which you get in on the glory of our Master, Jesus Christ.
15-17 So, friends, take a firm stand, feet on the ground and head high. Keep a tight grip on what you were taught, whether in personal conversation or by our letter. May Jesus himself and God our Father, who reached out in love and surprised you with gifts of unending help and confidence, put a fresh heart in you, invigorate your work, enliven your speech.
The Devil's Son
1 I want to talk to y'all about the time when Jesus comes back and we finally get to ride with him in person.
2 not to be easily upset or troubled, either by a prophecy(F1)(C1) or by a message or by a letter supposedly from us, alleging that the day of the Lord(F2)(C2) has come.(C3) 2 That yee bee not soone shaken in minde, or bee troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as from vs, as that the day of Christ is at hand,2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or (c)alarmed, either (d)by a spirit or a (e)spoken word, or (f)a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that (g)the day of the Lord has come.2 that you not be quickly shaken from your (F1)composure or be disturbed either by a (C1)spirit, or a (F2)(C2)message, or a (C3)letter as if from us, to the effect that (C4)the day of the Lord (C5)has come. 2 Do not become easily upset in your thinking or afraid if you hear that the day of the Lord has already come. Someone may have said this in a prophecy or in a message or in a letter as if it came from us. 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your (F1)composure or be disturbed either by a (C1)spirit or a (F2)(C2)message or a (C3)letter as if from us, to the effect that (C4)the day of the Lord (C5)has come.2 that you not be quickly shaken in your mind or be alarmed whether by a (C1)spirit or a (C2)word or a (C3)letter as if from us, to the effect that (C4)the day of the Lord (C5)has come.2 not to be easily disconcerted or alarmed by any spirit or message or letter presuming to be from us, alleging that the Day of the Lord has already come. 2 not to be easily upset or disturbed by people who claim that the Lord[a] has already come. They may say that they heard this directly from the Holy Spirit, or from someone else, or even that they read it in one of our letters. 2 not to be easily shaken in your thinking or anxious because of a spirit or a spoken message or a letter supposedly from us claiming that the Day of the Lord has already come.
2 that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as [if it were] by us, as that the day of the Lord is present. 2 Don't let yourselves be easily upset or worried if you hear that the day of the Lord has already come. Someone might say that this idea came from us—in something the Spirit told us, or in something we said, or in a letter we wrote.2 That ye be not suddenly mooued from your minde, nor troubled neither by spirit, nor by worde, nor by letter, as it were from vs, as though the day of Christ were at hand.2 That you let not your minds be hastily excited or troubled, neither by word, nor by prophecy of the spirit, nor by an epistle, supposedly from us, stating that the day of our LORD is at hand. 2 not to be so easily confused in your thinking or upset by the claim that the Day of the Lord has come. Perhaps it is thought that we said this while prophesying or preaching, or that we wrote it in a letter. 2 that you not be easily shaken from your composure, nor be troubled either by a spirit or by a message or by a letter alleged to be from us[a], to the effect that the day of the Lord has arrived. 2 for you not to be quickly shaken in the mind, nor to be disturbed, neither through a spirit, nor through speech, nor through letter, as through us, as if the Day of Christ has come.2 not to be quickly unsettled or alarmed either by a so-called prophetic revelation of a (C1)spirit or a (C2)message or a (C3)letter alleged to be from us, to the effect that (C4)the day of the Lord (C5)has already come. 2 to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand; 2 That you may not be moved in mind or troubled by a spirit, or by a word, or by a letter as from us, with the suggestion that the day of the Lord is even now come;2 to the end that you won't be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Messiah had come. 2 not to be so quickly upset[fn] or alarmed when someone claims that we said[fn] either by some spirit, conversation, or letter that the Day of the Lord has already come.[xr] 2 that you be not soon moved in your minds, nor perturbed, nor by word, nor by spirit, nor by letter, which (may be) as (if it were) from us, that, Behold, the day of our Lord cometh!2 that ye be not soon agitated in your mind, nor be troubled, neither by word, nor by spirit, nor by letter, as coming from us, that lo, the day of our Lord is at hand.2 That ye be not sodenlye moued from [your] minde, nor be troubled, neither by spirite, nor by worde, nor yet by letter, as from vs, as though the daye of Christe were at hande.2 to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is [now] present; 2 to the end that you won't be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come. 2 and our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind or terrified, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as from us, as if the day of the Lord were at hand.2 not readily to become unsettled in mind or troubled--either by any pretended spiritual revelation or by any message or letter claiming to have been sent by us--through fancying that the day of the Lord is now here.2 that ye be not mouyd soone fro youre witt, nether be aferd, nether bi spirit, nether bi word, nether bi epistle as sent bi vs, as if the dai of the Lord be nyy.2 to the end that you are not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand;2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 2 not to be easily shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ [fn] had come. 2 Don't be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don't believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. 2 do not be troubled in mind or worried by the talk you hear. Some say that the Lord has already come. People may say that I wrote this in a letter or that a spirit told them. 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as though from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. 2 That ye be not quickly tossed from your mind, nor be put in alarm - either by spirit, or by discourse, or by letter as by us, as that the day of the Lord, hath set in:2 That you be not easily moved from your sense nor be terrified, neither by spirit nor by word nor by epistle. as sent from us, as if the day of the Lord were at hand.2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or excited, either by spirit or by word, or by letter purporting to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.2 that ye be not sodely moved from youre mynde and be not troubled nether by sprete nether by wordes nor yet by letter which shuld seme to come from vs as though the daye of Christ were at honde.2 that ye be not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the day of Christ hath arrived;2 that you are not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the Day of the LORD has arrived;2 that ye be not sodenly moued fro youre mynde, and be not troubled, nether by sprete, nether by wordes, ner yet by letter, which shulde seme to be sent from vs, as though ye daye of Christ were at hande.2 you would not by any pretended revelation, by any discourse or epistle ascrib'd to us, be immediately perplex'd in your minds, or under any concern for the approach of the day of the Lord. 2 Don't let those who say Jesus has already came back get under your skin. Believe me, he's coming back to get us. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy(F1) comes first and the man of lawlessness(F2) is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
3 Let no man deceiue you by any meanes, for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sinne bee reuealed, the sonne of perdition,
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 3 (h)Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, (i)unless the rebellion comes first, and (j)the man of lawlessness[b] is revealed, (k)the son of destruction,[c]3 (C1)No one is to deceive you in any way! For it will not come unless the (F1)(C2)apostasy comes first, and the (C3)man of lawlessness is revealed, the (C4)son of destruction, 3 Do not let anyone fool you in any way. That day of the Lord will not come until the turning away[a] from God happens and the Man of Evil,[b] who is on his way to hell, appears. 3 (C1)Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the (F1)(C2)apostasy comes first, and the (C3)man of lawlessness is revealed, the (C4)son of destruction,3 (C1)Let no one in any way deceive you, for it has not come unless the (F1)(C2)apostasy comes first, and the (C3)man of lawlessness is revealed, the (C4)son of destruction,
3 Let no one deceive you in any way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed. 3 But don't be fooled! People will rebel against God. Then before the Lord returns, the wicked[b] one who is doomed to be destroyed will appear. 3 Don't let anyone deceive you in any way.
For the Day will not come until after the Apostasy has come and the man who separates himself from Torah has been revealed, the one destined for doom.
3 Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because [it will not be] unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition; 3 Don't be fooled by anything they might say. That day of the Lord will not come until the turning away from God happens. And that day will not come until the Man of Evil appears, the one who belongs to hell.[a]
3 Let no man deceiue you by any meanes: for that day shall not come, except there come a departing first, and that that man of sinne be disclosed, euen the sonne of perdition,
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, unless it is preceded by a rebellion, and the man of sin be revealed as the son of perdition, 3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way. For the Day will not come until the final Rebellion takes place and the Wicked One appears, who is destined to hell. 3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, because that Day will not come unless first comes the falling away, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,3 (C1)Let no one in any way deceive or entrap you, for that day will not come unless the (F1)(C2)apostasy comes first that is, the great rebellion, the abandonment of the faith by professed Christians, and the (C3)man of lawlessness is revealed, the (C4)son of destruction the Antichrist, the one who is destined to be destroyed, (VR1) 3 let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of [c]sin be revealed, the son of perdition,
3 Give no belief to false words: because there will first be a falling away from the faith, and the revelation of the man of sin, the son of destruction,
3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction,
3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day cannot come[fn] unless the rebellion[fn] takes place first and the man of sin,[fn] who is destined for destruction,[fn] is revealed.[xr]
3 3 3 Let no man deceaue you by any meanes, for [the Lorde shall not come] excepte there come a fallyng away first, & that that man of sinne be reuealed, the sonne of perdition, 3 let no man beguile you in any wise: for [it will not be], except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction, 3 Let no man deceive you by any means, for that day shall not come, unless the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for that day cannot come without the coming of the apostasy first, and the appearing of the man of sin, the son of perdition, who sets himself against, 3 No man disseyue you in ony manere. For but dissencioun come first, and the man of synne be schewid, the sonne of perdicioun, 3 let no man beguile you in any wise: for [it will not be,] except the falling away comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition, 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not arrive until the rebellion comes and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin [fn] is revealed, the son of perdition, 3 Don't be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness[b] is revealed—the one who brings destruction.[c] 3 Do not let anyone fool you. For the Lord will not come again until many people turn away from God. Then the leader of those who break the law will come. He is the man of sin. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one[b] is revealed, the one destined for destruction.[c] 3 That no one may cheat, you, in any one respect. Because that day will not set in - except the revolt come first, and there he revealed the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction, 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition 3 Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition, 3 Let no ma deceave you by eny meanes for the lorde commeth not excepte ther come a departynge fyrst and that that synfnll man be opened ye sonne of perdicion 3 let not any one deceive you in any manner, because -- if the falling away may not come first, and the man of sin be revealed -- the son of the destruction, 3 do not let anyone deceive you in any way, because if the departure may not come first, the man of lawlessness may [not] be revealed—the son of destruction, 3 Let noman disceaue you by eny meanes. For the LORDE commeth not, excepte the departynge come first, and that that Man of synne be opened, euen the sonne of perdicion, 3 don't be led into any mistake, because the previous rebellion does not yet appear, nor the man of sin throw off the disguise, that offspring of perdition: 3 Don't let anyone pull the wool over your eyes. Jesus won't come riding back until the devil's son has been revealed, the one destined for destruction by God. 4 He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god(C1) or object of worship,(C2) so that he sits(F1) in God’s temple, proclaiming that he himself is God. 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, (l)proclaiming himself to be God.4 who opposes and exalts himself above (F1)(C1)every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, (C2)displaying himself as being God. 4 He will be against and put himself above any so-called god or anything that people worship. And that Man of Evil will even go into God's Temple and sit there and say that he is God.4 who opposes and exalts himself above (F1)(C1)every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, (C2)displaying himself as being God.4 who opposes and exalts himself above (F1)(C1)every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the (F2)sanctuary of God, (C2)exhibiting himself as being God.4 He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 4 He will brag and oppose everything that is holy or sacred. He will even sit in God's temple and claim to be God. 4 He will oppose himself to everything that people call a god or make an object of worship; he will put himself above them all, so that he will sit in the Temple of God and proclaim that he himself is God.[a] 4 who opposes and exalts himself on high against all called God, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 4 He will stand against and put himself above everything that people worship or think is worthy of worship. He will even go into God's Temple[b] and sit there, claiming that he is God.4 Which is an aduersarie, and exalteth him selfe against all that is called God, or that is worshipped: so that he doeth sit as God in the Temple of God, shewing him selfe that he is God.4 Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is reverenced; so that even in the temple of God, he sits as a god, and shows himself, as though he were a god. 4 (b)He will oppose every so-called god or object of worship and will put himself above them all. He will even go in and sit down in God's Temple and claim to be God. 4 who opposes and who exalts himself over every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits down in the temple of God, proclaiming that he himself is God.4 the one opposing and exalting himself over everything being called God, or object of worship, so as for him "to sit in the temple of God" as God, setting forth himself, that he is God. Dan. 11:36; Eze. 28:2 4 who opposes and exalts himself so proudly and so insolently above (F1)(C1)every so-called god or object of worship, so that he actually enters and takes his seat in the temple of God, publicly (C2)proclaiming that he himself is God. (VR1) 4 he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or [d]that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the [e]temple of God, setting himself forth as God. 4 Who puts himself against all authority, lifting himself up over all which is named God or is given worship; so that he takes his seat in the Temple of God, putting himself forward as God.4 he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God. 4 He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship. The Anarchist
1-3 Now, friends, read these next words carefully. 5 Don’t you remember that when I was still with you I used to tell you about this? 5 Remember yee not, that when I was yet with you, I tolde you these things? 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?5 Do you not remember that (C1)while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 5 I told you when I was with you that all this would happen.
