He ruled for fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hephzibah. In God's judgment he was a bad king—an evil king. He reintroduced all the moral rot and spiritual corruption that had been scoured from the country when God dispossessed the pagan nations in favor of the children of Israel. He rebuilt all the sex-and-religion shrines that his father Hezekiah had torn down, and he built altars and phallic images for the sex god Baal and sex goddess Asherah, exactly what Ahaz king of Israel had done. He worshiped the cosmic powers, taking orders from the constellations. He even built these pagan altars in The Temple of God, the very Jerusalem Temple dedicated exclusively by God's decree ("in Jerusalem I place my Name") to God's Name. And he built shrines to the cosmic powers and placed them in both courtyards of The Temple of God. He burned his own son in a sacrificial offering. He practiced black magic and fortunetelling. He held séances and consulted spirits from the underworld. Much evil—in God's judgment, a career in evil. And God was angry.

Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah

1 (C1)Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Hephzibah.2 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight,(C1) imitating the detestable practices of the nations that the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites.(C2) 2 He did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the nations whom the LORD cast out before the children of Yisra'el.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, (b)according to the despicable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel. 2 He did what the Lord said was wrong. He did the hateful things the other nations had done—the nations that the Lord had forced out of the land ahead of the Israelites. 2 He did evil in the sight of the Lord and committed the same horrible sins practiced by the nations whom the Lord drove out from before the Israelites. 2 (C1)He did great evil in the sight of the LORD, (C2)in accordance with the idolatrous repulsive acts of the pagan nations whom the LORD dispossessed before the sons (descendants) of Israel.2 (C1)He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C2)in accordance with the abominations of the nations whom the LORD (F1)dispossessed before the sons of Israel.2 He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, after the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he did euill in the sight of the Lorde after the abomination of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.2 (C1)And he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, (C2)according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh dispossessed before the sons of Israel.2 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. 2 Manasseh disobeyed the Lord by following the disgusting customs of the nations that the Lord had forced out of Israel. 2 He did what was evil from Adonai's perspective, following the disgusting practices of the nations whom Adonai had expelled ahead of the people of Isra'el.

2 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, like the abominations of the nations that Jehovah had dispossessed from before the children of Israel.

2 Manasseh did what the Lord said was wrong. He did the terrible things the other nations did. (And the Lord forced those nations to leave their country when the Israelites came.)2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations which the LORD destroyed from before the children of Israel. 2 (b)Following the disgusting practices of the nations whom the Lord had driven out of the land as his people advanced, Manasseh sinned against the Lord. 2 He did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, according to the detestable things of the nations that Yahweh had driven out from the presence of the Israelites.[a] 2 And he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, according to the idolatries of the nations that Jehovah expelled from before the sons of Israel.2 And he dyd that which was euell in ye sight of the LORDE (euen after the abhominacios of the Heithen, whom the LORDE expelled before the children of Israel) and waxed frowarde, 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, after the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, copying the disgusting ways of those nations whom the Lord had sent out before the children of Israel.2 And he did euil in the sight of the Lord, euen after the abominations of the heathen whom the Lorde cast out before the children of Israel.2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the nations, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.2 And hee did that which was euill in the sight of the Lord, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord, according to the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel. 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he dide yuel in the siyt of the Lord, bi the idols of hethene men, whiche hethene men the Lord dide awei fro the face of the sones of Israel.2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, after the disgusting behaviors of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the sons of Israel.2 And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.2 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. 2 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, following the detestable practices of the pagan nations that the Lord had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites. 2 Manasseh did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. He did the sinful things that were done by the nations whom the Lord drove out from the people of Israel. 2 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, following the abominable practices of the nations that the Lord drove out before the people of Israel. 2 And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, - after the abominable practices of the nations, whom Yahweh had dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.2 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to the idols of the nations, which the Lord destroyed from before the face of the children of Israel.2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.2 and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, according to the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,2 and he does evil in the eyes of YHWH, according to the abominations of the nations that YHWH dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,2 (C1)He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C2)according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD dispossessed before the sons of Israel.3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed(C1) and reestablished the altars for Baal. He made an Asherah,(C2) as King Ahab of Israel had done;(C3) he also bowed in worship to all the stars in the sky(C4) and served them. 3 For he built again the high places which Hizkiyahu his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Ba`al, and made an Asherah, as did Ach'av king of Yisra'el, and worshiped all the host of the sky, and served them.

3 For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 For he rebuilt the high places (c)that Hezekiah his father had destroyed, and he erected altars for Baal and made (d)an Asherah, (e)as Ahab king of Israel had done, (f)and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 3 Manasseh's father, Hezekiah, had destroyed the places where gods were worshiped, but Manasseh rebuilt them. He built altars for Baal, and he made an Asherah idol as Ahab king of Israel had done. Manasseh also worshiped all the stars of the sky and served them. 3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he set up altars for Baal and made an Asherah pole just like King Ahab of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the stars in the sky and worshiped them. 3 For (C1)he rebuilt the high places for the worship of pagan gods which his father Hezekiah had destroyed; and (C2)he set up altars for Baal and made an image of Asherah, just as Ahab king of Israel had done, and he (C3)worshiped all the starry host of heaven and served them.3 For (C1)he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had destroyed; and (C2)he erected altars for Baal and made an (F1)Asherah, just as Ahab king of Israel had done, and he (C3)worshiped all the heavenly (F2)lights and served them.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshiped all the host of the sky, and served them. 3 For he went backe and built the hie places, which Hezekiah his father had destroyed: and he erected vp altars for Baal, and made a groue, as did Ahab King of Israel, and worshipped all the hoste of heauen and serued them.3 Indeed, (C1)he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and (C2)he erected altars for Baal and made an (F1)Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and (C3)worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up altars for Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King Ahab of Israel had done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven. 3 He rebuilt the local shrines that his father Hezekiah had torn down. He built altars for the god Baal and set up a sacred pole for worshiping the goddess Asherah, just as King Ahab of Israel had done. And he faithfully worshiped the stars in heaven. 3 For he rebuilt the high places Hizkiyahu his father had destroyed; he erected altars for Ba‘al and made an asherah, as had Ach'av king of Isra'el; and he worshipped all the army of heaven and served them.

3 And he built again the high places that Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars to Baal and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 Manasseh rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed. He also built altars for Baal and made an Asherah pole, just as King Ahab of Israel had done. Manasseh worshiped and served the stars of heaven.3 For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he erected altars for Baal and made idols, as Ahab king of Israel had done; and worshipped all the host of heaven and served them. 3 He rebuilt the pagan places of worship that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he built altars for the worship of Baal and made an image of the goddess Asherah, as King Ahab of Israel had done. Manasseh also worshiped the stars. 3 He returned and rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed. He erected altars for Baal and made a pole of Asherah worship just as Ahab king of Israel had made, and he bowed down to all of the host of heaven and served them. 3 And he built again the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed, and raised up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab the king of Israel, and worshiped all the host of the heavens, and served them.3 and builded vp the hye places which his father Ezechias had destroyed, and sett vp Baals altares, and made groues (as Achab the kynge of Israel dyd) and worshipped all the hoost of heauen, and serued them. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 He put up again the high places which had been pulled down by Hezekiah his father; he made altars for Baal, and an Asherah, as Ahab, king of Israel, had done; he was a worshipper and servant of all the stars of heaven.3 For he went and buylt vp the hygh places whiche Hezekia his father had destroyed, and he reared vp aulters for Baal, and made idol groues as dyd Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the hoast of heauen, and serued them.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For he built vp againe the high places, which Hezekiah his father had destroyed, and hee reared vp altars for Baal, and made a groue, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the hoste of heauen, and serued them. 3 And he built again the high places, which Ezekias his father had demolished; and set up an altar to Baal, and made groves as Achaab king of Israel made them; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 And he was turned, and bildide hiye thingis, whiche Ezechie, his fadir, distriede; and he reiside auteris of Baal, and he made woodis, as Achab kyng of Israel hadde do; and he worschipide `with out forth al the knyythod of heuene, and worschipide it in herte.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a wooden image, [fn] as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he worshiped all the host of heaven [fn] and served them. 3 He rebuilt the pagan shrines his father, Hezekiah, had destroyed. He constructed altars for Baal and set up an Asherah pole, just as King Ahab of Israel had done. He also bowed before all the powers of the heavens and worshiped them. 3 He built again the high places which his father Hezekiah had destroyed. He built altars for Baal and made an object out of wood to worship the false goddess Asherah. He did as Ahab king of Israel had done. He worshiped all the stars of heaven and served them. 3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he erected altars for Baal, made a sacred pole,[a] as King Ahab of Israel had done, worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 He again built the high places, which Hezekiah his father had destroyed, - and reared altars to Baal, and made a Sacred Stem, as did Ahab, king of Israel, and bowed down to all the army of the heavens, and served them. 3 And he turned, and built up the high places, which Ezechias, his father, had destroyed: and he set up altars to Baal, and made groves, as Achab, the king of Israel, had done: and he adored all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hezeki'ah his father had destroyed; and he erected altars for Ba'al, and made an Ashe'rah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 and he turneth and buildeth the high places that Hezekiah his father destroyed, and raiseth altars for Baal, and maketh a shrine, as did Ahab king of Israel, and boweth himself to all the host of the heavens, and serveth them.3 and he turns and builds the high places that his father Hezekiah destroyed, and raises altars for Ba‘al, and makes an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel did, and bows himself to all the host of the heavens, and serves them.3 For (C1)he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and (C2)he erected altars for Baal and made an (F1)Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and (C3)worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.4 He built altars in the Lord’s temple,(C1) where the Lord had said, “Jerusalem is where I will put my name.”(C2) 4 He built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD said, In Yerushalayim will I put my name.

4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 4 (g)And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, (h)"In Jerusalem will I put my name." 4 The Lord had said about the Temple, "I will be worshiped in Jerusalem," but Manasseh built altars in the Temple of the Lord. 4 He built altars in the Lord's temple, about which the Lord had said, "Jerusalem will be my home." 4 And (C1)he built pagan altars in the house (temple) of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "(C2)In Jerusalem I will put My (F1)Name (Presence)."4 And (C1)he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "(C2)In Jerusalem I will put My name."4 He built altars in the house of Yahweh, whereof Yahweh said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 4 Also he built altars in the house of the Lorde, of the which the Lorde saide, In Ierusalem will I put my Name.4 (C1)And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, "(C2)In Jerusalem I will put My name."4 Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will put My Name.”

4 In the temple, where only the Lord was supposed to be worshiped, Manasseh built altars for pagan gods 4 He erected altars in the house of Adonai, about which Adonai had said, "In Yerushalayim I will put my name."

4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 4 He built altars to honor false gods in the Lord's Temple. (This is the place the Lord was talking about when he said, "I will put my name in Jerusalem.")4 And he built an altar in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 4 (c)He built pagan altars in the Temple, the place that the Lord had said was where he should be worshiped. 4 He built altars in the temple of Yahweh about which Yahweh had said, "I will put my name in Jerusalem." 4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem I will put My name.4 And buylded altares in the LORDES house, wherof the LORDE sayde: I wyll set my name at Ierusalem. 4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, whereof Jehovah said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 4 And he put up altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.4 And he buylt aulters in the house of the Lord, of which the Lorde sayde: in Hierusalem will I put my name.4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD said: 'In Jerusalem will I put My name.'4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord sayd, In Ierusalem will I put my Name. 4 And he built an altar in the house of the Lord, whereas he had said, In Jerusalem I will place my name. 4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 4 And he bildide auteris in the hows of the Lord, of which the Lord seide, Y schal sette my name in Jerusalem.4 And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, whereof Yahweh said, In Jerusalem I will put my name.4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.4 He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem I will put My name."

4 He built pagan altars in the Temple of the Lord, the place where the Lord had said, "My name will remain in Jerusalem forever." 4 He built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, "In Jerusalem I will put My name." 4 He built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, "In Jerusalem I will put my name." 4 And he used to build altars in the house of Yahweh, - concerning which Yahweh had said, - In Jerusalem, will I put my Name.4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord said: In Jerusalem I will put my name.4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem will I put my name."4 And he hath built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah said, `In Jerusalem I put My name.'4 And he has built altars in the house of YHWH, of which YHWH said, "In Jerusalem I put My Name."4 (C1)He built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "(C2)In Jerusalem I will put My name."5 He built altars to all the stars in the sky(C1) in both courtyards of the Lord’s temple.(C2) 5 He built altars for all the host of the sky in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
