Judah’s King Uzziah

¹ All the people^(C1) of Judah took Uzziah,^(F1) who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.

¹ All the people of Judah took Uzziah^(a), who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.^1-3 After the death of King Amaziah, the people of Judah crowned his son Uzziah^[a] king, even though he was only sixteen at the time. Uzziah ruled fifty-two years from Jerusalem, the hometown of his mother Jecoliah. During his rule, he recaptured and rebuilt the town of Elath.

¹ Meanwhile, all the people of Y'hudah had taken ‘Uziyahu at the age of sixteen and made him king in place of his father Amatzyahu.

His mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem. He behaved well in the eyes of God, following in the footsteps of his father Amaziah. He was a loyal seeker of God. He was well trained by his pastor and teacher Zechariah to live in reverent obedience before God, and for as long as Zechariah lived, Uzziah lived a godly life. And God prospered him.³ Uzziah was ^(C1)sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was ^(F1)Jechiliah of Jerusalem.⁴ He did what was right in the Lord’s sight just as his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father Amatzyah had done.

⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did. ⁴ And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did what the Lord said was right, just as his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did what the Lord approved, just as his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did right in the sight of the LORD, in accordance with everything that his father Amaziah had done.⁴ He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, in accordance with everything that his father Amaziah had done.⁴ He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ And hee did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, according to al that his father Amaziah did.⁴ And he did what was right in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.⁴ And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.

⁴ He obeyed the Lord by doing right, as his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did what was right from Adonai's perspective, following the example of everything his father Amatzyahu had done.

⁴ And he did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ Uzziah did what the Lord wanted him to do. He obeyed God the same as his father Amaziah had done.⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father David did. ⁴ Following the example of his father, he did what was pleasing to the Lord. ⁴ And he did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that Amaziah his father had done. ⁴ And he did the right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah did.⁴ And he did right in the syght of the LORDE, as his father Amasias had done, ⁴ And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Amaziah had done.⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lorde, according to all as did his father Amaziahu.⁴ And he did that, which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.⁴ And hee did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did. ⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Amasias his father did. ⁴ And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ And he dide that, that was riytful in the siyt of the Lord, bi alle thingis whiche Amasie, his fadir, hadde do.⁴ And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.⁴ And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.⁴ And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁴ He did what was pleasing in the Lord's sight, just as his father, Amaziah, had done. ⁴ Uzziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. During the time that he sought the Lord, God gave him success.^(C3)

⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper. ⁵ He set himself to seek God ^(b)in the days of Zechariah, ^(c)who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. ⁵ Uzziah obeyed God while Zechariah was alive, because he taught Uzziah how to respect and obey God. And as long as Uzziah obeyed the Lord, God gave him success. ⁵ He followed God during the lifetime of Zechariah, who taught him how to honor God. As long as he followed the Lord, God caused him to succeed.^5 (C1)He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, ^(C2)who had understanding ^(F1)through the vision of God; and ^(C3)as long as he sought (inquired of, longing for) the LORD, God caused him to prosper.^5 (C1)He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, ^(C2)who had understanding ^(F1)through the vision of God; and ^(F2)(C3)as long as he sought the LORD, God made him successful.⁵ He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Yahweh, God made him to prosper. ⁵ And he sought God in the dayes of Zechariah (which vnderstoode the visions of God) and when as he sought the Lorde, God made him to prosper.^5 (C1)And he continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, ^(C2)who had understanding ^(F1)through the vision of God; and ^(F2)(C3)as long as he sought Yahweh, God made him succeed.⁵ He sought God throughout the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear^(a) of God. And as long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success. ⁵ Zechariah was Uzziah's advisor and taught him to obey God. And so, as long as Zechariah was alive, Uzziah was faithful to God, and God made him successful. ⁵ He consulted God during the lifetime of Z'kharyahu, who understood visions of God; and as long as he consulted Adonai, God gave him success.

⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and in the days that he sought Jehovah, God made him to prosper. ⁵ Uzziah followed God in the time of Zechariah's life. Zechariah taught Uzziah how to respect and obey God. When Uzziah was obeying the Lord, God gave him success.⁵ And he prayed before the LORD in the days of Zechariah, who taught him in the worship of the LORD, and the LORD prospered all his ways. ⁵ As long as Zechariah, his religious adviser, was living, he served the Lord faithfully, and God blessed him. ⁵ And he began to seek^[b] God in the days of Zechariah who was teaching in visions of God. And whenever^[c] he sought Yahweh God made him have success.⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and in the days he sought Jehovah, God made him prosper.⁵ and soughte God as longe as Zacharias lyued, which taughte in the visyons of God: and as longe as he sought the LORDE, God made him to prospere. ⁵ And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who ^[b]had understanding in ^[c]the vision of God: and as long as he sought Jehovah, God made him to prosper.⁵ He gave himself to searching after God in the days of Zechariah, who made men wise in the fear of God; and as long as he was true to the Lord, God made things go well for him.⁵ And [it came to passe that] he sought God in the dayes of Zachariahu, who had vnderstanding in the visions of God: And as long as he sought the Lorde, God made him to prosper.⁵ And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.⁵ And hee sought God in the dayes of Zechariah, who had vnderstanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper. ⁵ And he sought the Lord in the days of Zacharias, who understood the fear of the Lord; and in his days he sought the Lord, and the Lord prospered him. ⁵ And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper. ⁵ And he souyte the Lord in the daies of Zacarie, vndurstondynge and seynge God; and whanne he souyte God, God reulide hym in alle thingis.⁵ And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Yahweh, God made him to prosper.⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and, as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.⁵ He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions [fn] of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. ⁵ Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God.^[b] And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success. ⁵ He kept on looking to God in the days of Zechariah, who had special wisdom from God and taught him in the things of God. And as long as he looked to the Lord, God made things go well for him. ⁵ He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.⁵ And it came to pass that he set himself to seek God, in the days of Zechariah, who gave understanding in the seeing of God, - and, throughout the days of his seeking Yahweh, God, prospered him.⁵ And he sought the Lord in the days of Zacharias that understood and saw God: and as long as he sought the Lord, he directed him in all things.⁵ He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechari'ah, who instructed him in the fear of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.⁵ and he is as one seeking God in the days of Zechariah who hath understanding in visions of God: and in the days of his seeking Jehovah, God hath caused him to prosper.⁵ and he is as one seeking God in the days of Zechariah who has understanding in visions of God: and in the days of his seeking YHWH, God has caused him to prosper.^5 (C1)He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, ^(C2)who had understanding ^(F1)through the vision of God; and ^(F2)(C3)as long as he sought the LORD, God prospered him.

⁶ Uzziah went out to wage war against the Philistines,^(C1) and he tore down the wall of Gath, the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod. Then he built cities in the vicinity of Ashdod and among the Philistines. ⁶ He went forth and warred against the Pelishtim, and broke down the wall of Gat, and the wall of Yavneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in [the country of] Ashdod, and among the Pelishtim.

⁶ While Uzziah was king, he started a war against the Philistines. He smashed the walls of the cities of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod, then rebuilt towns around Ashdod and in other parts of Philistia.

He also built settlements around Ashdod and other Philistine areas. God helped him in his wars with the Philistines, the Arabs in Gur Baal, and the Meunites. The Ammonites also paid tribute. Uzziah became famous, his reputation extending all the way to Egypt. He became quite powerful.
