Rehoboam's Reign of Folly

1 (C1)Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about it—for he was in Egypt where he had fled from King Solomon’s presence—Jeroboam returned from Egypt.(C1) 2 It happened, when Yarov`am the son of Nevat heard of it, (for he was in Mitzrayim, where he had fled from the presence of king Shlomo,) that Yarov`am returned out of Mitzrayim.

2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 2 And as soon as Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, (b)where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 2 Jeroboam son of Nebat was in Egypt, where he had gone to escape from King Solomon. When Jeroboam heard about Rehoboam being made king, he returned from Egypt. 2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard the news, he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon. Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard about the new king (for he (C1)was in (F1)Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned from Egypt. (VR1)2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard about it ((C1)he was in Egypt where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned from Egypt.2 It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 2 And when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat heard it, (which was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Salomon the King) he returned out of Egypt.2 And it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for (C1)he was in Egypt where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned from Egypt.2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon.

2 Jeroboam son of Nebat heard what was happening, and he returned from Egypt, where he had gone to hide from Solomon. 2 When Yarov‘am the son of N'vat heard of it, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from Shlomo.

2 And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (now he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam and all Israel heard it, 2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had gone to Egypt to escape from King Solomon, heard this news, he returned home. 2 And it happened that when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it—now he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon—Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 2 And it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard, he being in Egypt because he had fled from the face of Solomon the king, Jeroboam returned from Egypt.2 And whan Ieroboa the sonne of Nebat herde that, which was in Egipte ( whither he was fled for kynge Salomon) he came agayne out of Egipte. 2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon), that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 2 And when Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had news of it, (for he was in Egypt where he had gone in flight from King Solomon,) he came back from Egypt.2 And when Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat (which was fled into Egypt from the presence of Solomon the king) heard it, he returned out of Egypt.2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it--for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon--that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.2 And it came to passe when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat (who was in Egypt, whither hee had fled from the presence of Solomon the king) heard it, that Ieroboam returned out of Egypt. 2 And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nabat heard it, (now he was in Egypt, forasmuch as he had fled thither from the face of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,)that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 2 And whanne Jeroboam, the sone of Nabath, that was in Egipt, `for he fledde thidur bifor Salomon, hadde herd this, he turnyde ayen anoon.2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who [was] in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard [it], that Jeroboam returned from Egypt.2 So it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), that Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard of this, he returned from Egypt, for he had fled to Egypt to escape from King Solomon. 2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard about it, he returned from Egypt. For Jeroboam had run to Egypt to get away from King Solomon. 2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam son of Nebat, who was in Egypt-whither he had fled from the face of Solomon the king - heard of it, then returned Jeroboam out of Egypt.2 And when Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who was in Egypt, (for he was fled thither from Solomon,) heard it, forthwith he returned.2 And when Jerobo'am the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from King Solomon), then Jerobo'am returned from Egypt.2 And it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat's -- who [is] in Egypt because he hath fled from the face of Solomon the king -- hearing, that Jeroboam turneth back out of Egypt;2 And it comes to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat—who [is] in Egypt because he has fled from the face of Solomon the king—hearing, that Jeroboam turns back out of Egypt;2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for (C1)he was in Egypt where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned from Egypt.3 So they summoned him. Then Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam: 3 They sent and called him; and Yarov`am and all Yisra'el came, and they spoke to Rechav`am, saying,

3 And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came and said to Rehoboam, 3 After the people sent for him, he and the people went to Rehoboam and said to him, 3 They sent for him and Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And the people sent messengers and summoned him. So when Jeroboam and all Israel came, they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,3 So they sent word and summoned him. When Jeroboam and all Israel came, they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,3 They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And they sent and called him: so came Ieroboam and all Israel, and communed with Rehoboam, saying,3 Then they sent and called for him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel came to Rehoboam and said, 3 The people from the northern tribes of Israel sent for him. Then together they went to Rehoboam and said, 3 They sent and summoned him, so Yarov‘am and all Isra'el came and said to Rechav‘am,

3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam saying,3 They came and said to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, 3 The people of the northern tribes sent for him, and they all went together to Rehoboam and said to him, 3 And they sent and called him. Then Jeroboam and all Israel went, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And they sent and called for him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,3 And they sent for him and called him. And Ieroboam came with all Israel, and spake to Roboam, and sayde: 3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spake to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And they sent for him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came to Rehoboam and said,3 And they sent and called him: And so Ieroboam and all they of Israel, came and communed with Rehoboam, saying:3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying:3 And they sent and called him. So Ieroboam and all Israel came, and spake to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And they sent and called him: and Jeroboam and all the congregation came to Roboam, saying, 3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spake to Rehoboam, saying, 3 And thei clepiden hym, and he cam with al Israel, and thei spaken to Roboam, and seiden,3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,3 And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,3 Then they sent for him and called him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 3 The leaders of Israel summoned him, and Jeroboam and all Israel went to speak with Rehoboam. 3 And the people sent for him. Jeroboam and all Israel came to Rehoboam and said, 3 They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came and said to Rehoboam, 3 And they sent, and called him, so Jeroboam and all Israel came, - and spake unto Rehoboam, saying:3 And they sent for him, and he came with all Israel, and they spoke to Roboam, saying:3 And they sent and called him; and Jerobo'am and all Israel came and said to Rehobo'am,3 and they send and call for him, and Jeroboam cometh in, and all Israel, and speak unto Rehoboam, saying,3 and they send and call for him, and Jeroboam comes in, and all of Israel, and they speak to Rehoboam, saying,3-4 Summoned by Israel, Jeroboam and all Israel went to Rehoboam and said, "Your father made life hard for us—worked our fingers to the bone. Give us a break; lighten up on us and we'll willingly serve you."3 So they sent and summoned him. When Jeroboam and all Israel came, they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,4 “Your father made our yoke harsh. Therefore, lighten your father’s harsh service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”

4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.

4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee. 4 (c)"Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you." 4 "Your father forced us to work very hard. Now, make it easier for us, and don't make us work as he did. Then we will serve you." 4 "Your father made us work too hard! Now if you lighten the demands he made and don't make us work as hard, we will serve you." 4 "Your father King Solomon made our (C1)yoke hard (heavy, difficult); so now lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you."4 "Your father made our (C1)yoke hard; but now, lighten the hard labor imposed by your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you."4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you. 4 Thy father made our yoke grieuous: nowe therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke, that he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.4 "Your father made our (C1)yoke harsh; but now, lighten the harsh service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you."4 “Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.” 4 "Your father Solomon forced us to work very hard. But if you make our work easier, we will serve you and do whatever you ask." 4 "Your father laid a harsh yoke on us. But if you will lighten the harsh service we had to render your father and ease his heavy yoke that he put on us, we will serve you."

4 Thy father made our yoke grievous; and now lighten the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee. 4 "Your father forced us to work very hard. Now, make it easier for us. Stop the heavy work that your father forced us to do and we will serve you."4 Your father made our yoke grievous; now therefore lighten somewhat the harsh rule of your father and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve you. 4 "Your father placed heavy burdens on us. If you make these burdens lighter and make life easier for us, we will be your loyal subjects." 4 "Your father made our yoke heavy. Now, therefore, lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve you." 4 Your father made our yoke hard; and now lighten the hard service of your father, and his heavy yoke that he put on us, and we shall serve you.4 Thy father made or yocke greuous: make thou lighter now ye harde bondage of thy father, and ye heuy yocke that he layed vpon vs, and we wyll submytte oure selues vnto the. 4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee. 4 Your father put a hard yoke on us: if you will make the conditions under which your father kept us down less cruel, and the weight of the yoke he put on us less hard, then we will be your servants.4 Thy father layde a greeuous yoke vpon vs: nowe therefore remit thou somewhat of the greeuous seruice of thy fafather, & of his heauy yoke that he put vpon vs, and we wyll serue thee.4 'Thy father made our yoke grievous; now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.'4 Thy father made our yoke grieuous, nowe therefore ease thou somewhat the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his heauy yoke that he put vpon vs, and we will serue thee. 4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now then abate somewhat of thy father’s grievous rule, and of his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee. 4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee. 4 Thi fadir oppresside vs with ful hard yok; comaunde thou liytere thingis than thi fader, that settide on vs a greuouse seruage; and releese thou a litil of `the birthun, that we serue thee. And he seide,4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.4 "Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you." 4 "Your father was a hard master," they said. "Lighten the harsh labor demands and heavy taxes that your father imposed on us. Then we will be your loyal subjects." 4 "Your father gave us a heavy load to carry. So now make our work easier than your father made us work. Do not let our load be as heavy as the one he put on us. And we will work for you." 4 "Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke that he placed on us, and we will serve you." 4 Thy father, made our yoke oppressive, - now, therefore, lighten thou somewhat the oppressive servitude of thy father and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.4 Thy father oppressed with a most grievous yoke, do thou govern us with a lighter hand than thy father, who laid upon us a heavy servitude, and ease some thing of the burden, that we may serve thee.4 "Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke upon us, and we will serve you."4 `Thy father made our yoke sharp, and now, make light [somewhat] of the sharp service of thy father, and of his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.'4 "Your father made our yoke sharp, and now, make light [some] of the sharp service of your father, and [some] of his heavy yoke that he put on us, and we serve you."4 "Your father made our (C1)yoke hard; now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you."
