Watch for the Lord to Come Again
1 You do not need anyone to write to tell you when and at what kind of times these things will happen.
1 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters,[a] you do not need to have anything written to you.
1 But, concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, - ye have, no need, that, unto you, anything be written;
1 But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you:

1 Bvt of ye tymes and seasons (brethre) it is no nede to wryte vnto you.
1 It is not necessary, my brethren, to specify the exact time: 1-3 I don't think, friends, that I need to deal with the question of when all this is going to happen. You know as well as I that the day of the Master's coming can't be posted on our calendars. He won't call ahead and make an appointment any more than a burglar would. About the time everybody's walking around complacently, congratulating each other—"We've sure got it made! Now we can take it easy!"—suddenly everything will fall apart. It's going to come as suddenly and inescapably as birth pangs to a pregnant woman.
1 Now amigos, I know you're wondering when this is all gonna happen.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that (c)the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.2 For you yourselves know full well that (C1)the day of the Lord is coming (C2)just like a thief in the night. 2 You know very well that the day the Lord comes again will be a surprise, like a thief that comes in the night. 2 For you yourselves know full well that (C1)the day of the Lord (F1)will come (C2)just like a thief in the night.2 For you yourselves know full well that (C1)the day of the Lord (F1)will come (C2)just like a thief in the night.2 For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 2 You surely know that the Lord's return[a] will be as a thief coming at night. 2 because you yourselves well know that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

It'll happen when you least expect it. 3 When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction(C1) will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 3 For when they shal say, Peace and safety: then sudden destructio commeth vpon them, as trauaile vpon a woman with childe, and they shall not escape.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 3 While people are saying, "There is peace and security," then (d)sudden destruction will come upon them (e)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.3 While they are saying, "(C1)Peace and safety!" then (C2)sudden destruction (F1)will come upon them like (C3)labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 3 While people are saying, "We have peace and we are safe," they will be destroyed quickly. It is like pains that come quickly to a woman having a baby. Those people will not escape. 3 While they are saying, "(C1)Peace and safety!" then (F1)(C2)destruction (F2)will come upon them suddenly like (C3)labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.3 While they are saying, "(C1)Peace and safety!" then (F1)(C2)destruction (F2)will come upon them suddenly like (C3)labor pains upon a woman who is pregnant, and they will never escape.3 While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 3 People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won't escape. 3 When people are saying, "Everything is so peaceful and secure," then destruction will suddenly come upon them, the way labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there is no way they will escape.
3 When they may say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon her that is with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 3 People will say, "We have peace and we are safe." At that time destruction will come to them quickly, like the pains of a woman giving birth. And those people will not escape.3 For when they shall say, Peace, and safetie, then shall come vpon them sudden destruction, as the trauaile vpon a woman with childe, and they shall not escape,3 For when they shall say: Peace and tranquility; then sudden destruction will come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 3 When people say, "Everything is quiet and safe," then suddenly destruction will hit them! It will come as suddenly as the pains that come upon a woman in labor, and people will not escape. 3 Whenever they say "Peace and security," then sudden destruction will overtake them like the birth pains of a pregnant woman[a], and they will not possibly escape. 3 For when they say, Peace and safety! Then suddenly destruction comes upon them, like the travail to the one having babe in womb, and not at all shall they escape.3 While they are saying, "(C1)Peace and safety all is well and secure!" then in a moment unforeseen (C2)destruction will come upon them suddenly like (C3)labor pains on a woman with child, and they will absolutely not escape for there will be no way to escape the judgment of the Lord. 3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 3 When they say, There is peace and no danger, then sudden destruction will come on them, as birth-pains on a woman with child; and they will not be able to get away from it.3 For when they are saying, "Shalom and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape. 3 When people[fn] say, "There is peace and security," destruction will strike them as suddenly as labor pains come[fn] to a pregnant woman, and they will not be able to escape.[xr] 3 While they shall be saying, Peace and tranquillity, then unawares will destruction arise against them, as distress upon the child-bearer, and they shall not escape.3 While they will be saying, Peace and quietness, then suddenly destruction will burst upon them, as distress upon a child-bearer, and they will not escape.3 For when they shal say peace & safetie, then shall sodeyne destruction come vppon them, as sorowe vpon a woman with chylde, and they shall not escape.3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 3 For when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape. 3 When they say, peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.3 While they are saying "Peace and safety!" then in a moment destruction falls upon them, like birth-pains on a woman who is with child; and escape there is none.3 For whanne thei schulen seie pees is, and sikirnesse, thanne sudeyn deth schal come on hem, as sorewe to a womman that is with child, and thei schulen not scape.3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail on a pregnant woman; and they shall in no way escape.3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 3 Now when they are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape. 3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 3 When people are saying, "Everything is peaceful and secure," then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman's labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. 3 When they say, "Everything is fine and safe," then all at once they will be destroyed. It will be like pain that comes on a woman when a child is born. They will not be able to get away from it. 3 When they say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! 3 As soon as they begin to say - Peace! and safety! then, suddenly, upon them, cometh destruction, - just as the birth-throe unto her that is with child, - and in nowise shall they escape.3 For when they shall say: Peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.3 When people say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as travail comes upon a woman with child, and there will be no escape.3 When they shall saye peace and no daunger than commeth on the soden destruccion as the travalynge of a woma with childe and they shall not scape.3 for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail [doth] her who is with child, and they shall not escape;3 for when they may say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction comes [on] them, as the travail [on] her who is with child, and they will not escape;3 For whan they shal saye: Tush, It is peace, there is no daunger, then shall soden destruccion come vpo the, euen as the payne of a woman trauaylinge with childe, and they shal not escape.3 whilst they flatter themselves with peace and safety, destruction shall fall upon them, like the pangs of a woman in travail, and they shall not escape. 3 When everyone is complacent and content with the ways of this sorry world, the fires of the prescribed burn will be lit. And just like a pregnant woman can't stop the birth, neither will the scoffers be able to escape the fire.
4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, for this day to surprise you like a thief.(C1) 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkenesse, that that day should ouertake you as a thiefe.4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 4 But you (f)are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in (C1)darkness, so that the day would overtake you (F1)(C2)like a thief; 4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not living in darkness, and so that day will not surprise you like a thief. 4 But you, brethren, are not in (C1)darkness, that the day would overtake you (F1)(C2)like a thief;4 But you, brothers, are not in (C1)darkness, that the day would overtake you (F1)(C2)like a thief,4 But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.
4 My dear friends, you don't live in darkness, and so that day won't surprise you like a thief.
4 But you, brothers, are not in the dark, so that the Day should take you by surprise like a thief;
4 But *ye*, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief:
4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not living in darkness. And so that day will not surprise you like a thief.4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkenes, that that day shal come on you, as it were a thiefe.4 But you, my brethren, are not in darkness that that day shall overtake you as a thief. 4 But you, friends, are not in the darkness, and the Day should not take you by surprise like a thief. 4 But you, brothers, are not in the darkness, so that the day should catch you like a thief, 4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the Day should overtake you as a thief.4 But you, (F1)believers, all you who believe in Christ as Savior and acknowledge Him as God's Son are not in spiritual (C1)darkness nor held by its power, that the day of judgment would overtake you by surprise (C2)like a thief; 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you [a]as a thief: 4 But you, my brothers, are not in the dark, for that day to overtake you like a thief:4 But you, brothers, aren't in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief. 4 However, brothers, you are not in the darkness, in order that the day might surprise you like a thief.[xr] 4 But you, my brethren, are not in darkness, that that day as a thief should overtake you.4 But ye, my brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.4 But ye brethren are not in darknesse, that that day shoulde ouertake you as a theefe.4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief: 4 But you, brothers, aren't in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that daylight should surprise you like a thief;4 But, britheren, ye ben not in derknessis, that the ilke dai as a theef catche you.4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the darkness for the day to overtake you like a thief would. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
4 But you aren't in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won't be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.[b] 4 But you are not in darkness, Christian brothers. That day will not surprise you as a robber would. 4 But you, beloved,[b] are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; 4 But, ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that, the day, upon you, as upon thieves, should lay hold;4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief.4 But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to surprise you like a thief.4 But ye brethre are not in darcknes that yt daye shuld come on you as it were a thefe.4 and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;4 but you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the Day may catch you as a thief;4 But ye brethren are not in darknes, that that daye shulde come on you as a thefe.4 but you, my brethren, are too well inform'd to be surpriz'd by that day, as by a thief. 4-8 But friends, you're not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this? You're sons of Light, daughters of Day. We live under wide open skies and know where we stand. So let's not sleepwalk through life like those others. Let's keep our eyes open and be smart. People sleep at night and get drunk at night. But not us! Since we're creatures of Day, let's act like it. Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.
4 But you cowboys and cowgirls won't be caught flat footed when the fire is lit. Y'all will be ready and waiting.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 5 For you are all (g)children[b] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.5 for you are all (C1)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of (C2)darkness; 5 You are all people who belong to the light and to the day. We do not belong to the night or to darkness. 5 for you are all (C1)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of (C2)darkness;5 for you are all (C1)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of (C2)darkness;5 For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 5 You belong to the light and live in the day. We don't live in the night or belong to the dark. 5 for you are all people who belong to the light, who belong to the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness,
5 for all *ye* are sons of light and sons of day; we are not of night nor of darkness. 5 You are all people who belong to the light. You belong to the day. We are not of the night, nether of darknesse.5 you inherit the advantages of meridian light: we are not involv'd in the obscurity of night. 5 You are children of the light, not the darkness. Only those in darkness will be destroyed. 6 So then, let us not sleep, like the rest, but let us stay awake and be self-controlled.
6 Therefore let vs not sleepe, as doe others: but let vs watch and be sober.

6 So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober. 6 Others may sleep, but we should stay awake and be alert. 6 so let's not be asleep, like the rest are; on the contrary, let us stay alert and sober.
6 So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober; 6 So we should not be like other people. We should not be sleeping. We should be awake and have self-control.
