1 Thessalonians 3
Anxiety in Athens
1 Therefore, when we could no longer stand it, we thought it was better to be left alone in Athens.(C1)
1 Wherefore when wee could no longer forbeare, wee thought it good to bee left at Athens alone:
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
1 Therefore when we could bear it no longer, we were willing (a)to be left behind at Athens alone,
Encouragement of Timothy's Visit
1 Therefore, (C1)when we could no longer endure it, we thought it best to be left behind, alone at (C2)Athens,
1 When we could not wait any longer, we decided it was best to stay in Athens alone
Encouragement of Timothy's Visit
1 Therefore (C1)when we could endure it no longer, we thought it best to be left behind at (C2)Athens alone,
Timothy's Good Report
1 Therefore (C1)when we could endure it no longer, we were pleased to be left behind at (C2)Athens alone,
Timothy’s Visit
1 So when we could bear it no longer, we were willing to be left on our own in Athens.
1 Finally, we couldn't stand it any longer. We decided to stay in Athens by ourselves
1 So when we could no longer stand it, we agreed to be left in Athens alone
1 Wherefore, being no longer able to refrain ourselves, we thought good to be left alone in Athens,1 We could not come to you, but it was very hard to wait any longer. So we decided to send Timothy to you and stay in Athens alone. Timothy is our brother. He works with us for God to tell people the Good News about Christ. We sent Timothy to strengthen and encourage you in your faith.
1 Wherefore since we coulde no longer forbeare, wee thought it good to remaine at Athens alone,
1 AND because we could no longer with stand these obstacles, we decided to remain at Athens alone;
1 (a)Finally, we could not bear it any longer. So we decided to stay on alone in Athens
Paul Sends Timothy to Thessalonica
1 Therefore when we[a] could bear it no longer, we determined to be left behind in Athens alone,
1 So, no longer enduring, we were pleased to be left in Athens alone,
Encouragement of Timothy's Visit
1 Therefore, (C1)when we could no longer endure our separation from you, we thought it best to be left behind, alone at (C2)Athens,
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone;
1 At last our desire to have news of you was so strong that, while we ourselves were waiting at Athens,
1 Therefore, when we couldn't stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,
1 Therefore, when we could stand it no longer, we decided to remain alone in Athens[xr]
1 And because we could not endure, we were willing to be left at Athinos alone,
1 And, because we could no longer endure it, we were willing to be left alone at Athens,
1 Wherfore, sence we coulde no longer forbeare, we thought it good to remaine at Athens alone.
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone;
1 Therefore, when we couldn't stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,
1 Therefore when we could bear no longer, we thought good to be left at Athens alone,
1 So when we could endure it no longer, we decided to remain behind in Athens alone;
1 For which thing we suffriden no lengere, and it pleside to vs to dwelle aloone at Atenys;
1 Therefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone;
1 Wherefore, when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
1 So when we could bear it no longer, we decided to stay on in Athens alone.
1 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone,
1 Finally, when we could stand it no longer, we decided to stay alone in Athens,
1 When we could wait no longer, we decided it was best to stay in the city of Athens alone.
1 Therefore when we could bear it no longer, we decided to be left alone in Athens;
1 Wherefore, no longer concealing our anxiety, we were well-pleased to be left in Athens, alone,
1 For which cause, forbearing no longer, we thought it good to remain at Athens alone.
1 Therefore when we could bear it no longer, we were willing to be left behind at Athens alone,
1 Wherfore sence we coulde no lenger forbeare it pleased vs to remayne at Athens alone
1 Wherefore no longer forbearing, we thought good to be left in Athens alone,
1 For this reason, enduring no longer, we thought good to be left in Athens alone,
1 Wherfore sence we coulde no longer forbeare, we thoughte it good to remayne at Athens alone,
1 Being therefore impatient to hear of you, we judg'd it proper to stay at Athens alone, and send you our brother Timothy, 1-2 So when we couldn't stand being separated from you any longer and could find no way to visit you ourselves, we stayed in Athens and sent Timothy to get you up and about, cheering you on so you wouldn't be discouraged by these hard times. He's a brother and companion in the faith, God's man in spreading the Message, preaching Christ.

He is young, but he is as handy a cowboy as God has ever put on this earth. He's been there for every wreck and successful branding. We sent him to y'all to show y'all the ropes. 3 so that no one will be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this. 3 That no man should be mooued by these afflictions: for your selues know that we are appointed therunto.
3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. 3 that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that (d)we are destined for this.3 so that no one would be (F1)disturbed by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that (C1)we have been destined for this. 3 so none of you would be upset by these troubles. You yourselves know that we must face these troubles. 3 so that no one would be (F1)disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that (C1)we have been destined for this.3 so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions, for you yourselves know that (C1)we have been destined for this.3 so that none of you would be shaken by these trials. For you know that we are destined for this. 3 We didn't want any of you to be discouraged by all these troubles. You knew we would have to suffer, 3 so that none of you would let these persecutions unsettle him. For you yourselves know that these are bound to come to us;
3 that no one might be moved by these afflictions. (For yourselves know that we are set for this; 3 We sent him so that none of you would be upset by the troubles we have now. You yourselves know that we must have these troubles.3 That no man should be moued with these afflictions: for ye your selues knowe, that we are appointed thereunto.3 So that no man among you might be disheartened by these tribulations: for you, yourselves, know that this is our destiny. 3 so that none of you should turn back because of these persecutions. You yourselves know that such persecutions are part of God's will for us. 3 so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed for this, 3 that no one be drawn aside by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.3 so that no one would be unsettled by these difficulties to which I have referred. For you know that (C1)we have been destined for this as something unavoidable in our position. 3 that no man be moved by these afflictions; for yourselves know that hereunto we are appointed. 3 So that no man might be moved by these troubles; because you see that these things are part of God's purpose for us.3 that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task. 3 so that no one would be shaken by these persecutions. Indeed, you yourselves know that we were destined for this.[xr] 3 that none of you should be slain through these afflictions; for you know that to this we are set.3 lest any of you should be disheartened by these afflictions; for ye know, that we are appointed thereto.3 That no man shoulde be moued in these afflictions: For ye your selues knowe, that we are appoynted therevnto.3 that no man be moved by these afflictions; for yourselves know that hereunto we are appointed. 3 that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task. 3 That no one might be moved by these afflictions; for ye know that we are appointed hereto.3 that none of you might be unnerved by your present trials: for you yourselves know that they are our appointed lot.3 that no man be mouyd in these tribulaciouns. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this. 3 that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this. 3 and to keep you from being shaken by the troubles you were going through. But you know that we are destined for such troubles. 3 We do not want anyone to give up because of troubles. You know that we can expect troubles. 3 so that no one would be shaken by these persecutions. Indeed, you yourselves know that this is what we are destined for. 3 That, no one, might be shrinking back in these tribulations. For ye, yourselves, know, that, hereunto, are we appointed;3 That no man should be moved in these tribulations: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.3 that no one be moved by these afflictions. You yourselves know that this is to be our lot.3 yt no ma shulde be moved in these affliccios. For ye youre selves knowe that we are even apoynted therevnto.3 that no one be moved in these tribulations, for yourselves have known that for this we are set,3 that no one be moved in these tribulations, for you have known that we are set for this,3 that noman shulde be moued in these troubles: (for ye youre selues knowe, that we are euen appoynted there vnto.3 none of you might be stagger'd by these persecutions: for you know that we are destin'd to suffer. 3-5 Not that the troubles should come as any surprise to you. You've always known that we're in for this kind of thing. It's part of our calling. When we were with you, we made it quite clear that there was trouble ahead. And now that it's happened, you know what it's like. That's why I couldn't quit worrying; I had to know for myself how you were doing in the faith. I didn't want the Tempter getting to you and tearing down everything we had built up together.3 He warned y'all of the trials and tribulations that come for riding for the Lord. Y'all know top hands ain't made by riding old broke nags and kid's ponies. When you ride the rough trail, you've got to be able to ride the rough stock. It's what makes you who you are. 4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you in advance that we were going to experience affliction, and as you know, it happened. 4 For verily when wee were with you, we told you before, that we should suffer tribulation, euen as it came to passe and ye know.
4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know. 4 For when we were with you, we kept telling you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction, (e)just as it has come to pass, and just as you know.4 For even when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; (F1)(C1)and so it happened, (F2)as you know. 4 Even when we were with you, we told you we all would have to suffer, and you know it has happened. 4 For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; (F1)(C1)and so it came to pass, (F2)as you know.4 For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction, (C1)just as it happened and as you know.4 Indeed, when we were with you, we kept warning you that we would suffer persecution; and as you know, it has come to pass. 4 because when we were with you, we told you this would happen. And we did suffer, as you well know. 4 even when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were about to be persecuted; and indeed it has happened, as you know.
4 for also, when we were with you, we told you beforehand we are about to be in tribulation, even as also it came to pass, and ye know.) 4 Even when we were with you, we told you that we would all have to suffer. And you know that it happened just as we said.4 For verily when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulations, euen as it came to passe, and ye knowe it.4 For verily when we were with you, we told you before, that we should suffer tribulations; even as it has come to pass, and as you know. 4 For while we were still with you, we told you ahead of time that we were going to be persecuted; and as you well know, that is exactly what happened. 4 for indeed when we were with you we told you beforehand that we were about to be afflicted, just as indeed it happened, and you know. 4 For even when we were with you, we said to you before that we are about to be afflicted, as it also happened, even you know.4 For even when we were with you, we warned you plainly in advance that we were going to experience persecution; (C1)and so, as you know, it has come to pass. 4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you [c]beforehand that we are to suffer affliction; even as it came to pass, and ye know. 4 And when we were with you, we said to you that trouble was before us; and so it came about, as you see.4 For most assuredly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know. 4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you ahead of time that we were going to suffer persecution. And as you know, that is what happened.[xr] 4 For while also we were with you, we foretold you that we were to be afflicted, as you know that it hath been.4 For also when we were with you, we forewarned you, that we were to be afflicted; as ye know did occur.4 For veryly when we were with you, we tolde you before that we shoulde suffer tribulation, euen as it came to passe, and [as] ye knowe.4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction; even as it came to pass, and ye know. 4 For most assuredly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know. 4 For when we were with you we told you before, we should be afflicted; as it came to pass, and ye know.4 For even when we were with you, we forewarned you, saying, "We are soon to suffer affliction;" and this actually happened, as you well know.4 For whanne we weren at you, we biforseiden to you, that we schulden suffre tribulaciouns; as it is don, and ye witen.4 For truly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction; even as it came to pass, and you know.4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know. 4 For in fact when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we would suffer affliction, and so it has happened, as you well know. 4 For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know. 4 Even while we were with you, we warned you that troubles would soon come—and they did, as you well know. 4 Even when we were with you, we told you that much trouble would come to us. It has come as you can see. 4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were to suffer persecution; so it turned out, as you know. 4 For, even when we were with you, we told you beforehand - we are destined to suffer tribulation! even as it also came to pass, and ye know.4 For even when we were with you, we foretold you that we should suffer tribulations: as also it is come to pass, and you know.4 For when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction; just as it has come to pass, and as you know.4 For verely when I was with you I tolde you before that we shulde suffre tribulacion even as it came to passe and as ye knowe.4 for even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand, that we are about to suffer tribulation, as also it did come to pass, and ye have known [it];4 for even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand that we are about to suffer tribulation, as it also came to pass, and you have known [it];4 And whan we were with you, we tolde you before, that we shulde suffre tribulacion, euen as it is come to passe, & as ye knowe.)4 and even when we were with you, we foretold you, that we should be persecuted, as you know it happen'd. 4 When we were there, we told y'all you'd have to ride the rough stock to get where God wants you to be. We told y'all not to expect pony rides. And guess what? Now you realize we were telling y'all the truth. 5 For this reason, when I could no longer stand it, I also sent him to find out about your faith, fearing that the tempter had tempted you and that our labor might be for nothing.
5 For this cause when I could no longer forbeare, I sent to know your faith, lest by some meanes the tempter haue tempted you, and our labor be in vaine.5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain. 5 For this reason, (f)when I could bear it no longer, (g)I sent to learn about your faith, (h)for fear that somehow (i)the tempter had tempted you and (j)our labor would be in vain.5 For this reason, (C1)when I could no longer endure it, I also (C2)sent to (F1)find out about your faith, for fear that (C3)the tempter might have tempted you, and (C4)our labor would be for nothing.
5 Because of this, when I could wait no longer, I sent Timothy to you so I could learn about your faith. I was afraid the devil had tempted you, and perhaps our hard work would have been wasted.5 For this reason, (C1)when I could endure it no longer, I also (C2)sent to (F1)find out about your faith, for fear that (C3)the tempter might have tempted you, and (C4)our labor would be in vain.5 For this reason, (C1)when I could endure it no longer, I also (C2)sent to know about your faith, lest somehow (C3)the tempter has tempted you, and (C4)our labor be in vain.5 For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter had somehow tempted you and caused our labor to be in vain. 5 At last, when I could not wait any longer, I sent Timothy to find out about your faith. I hoped that Satan had not tempted you and made all our work useless. 5 That is the reason why, after I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your trust. I was afraid that somehow the Tempter had tempted you, and our hard work had been wasted.5 For this reason *I* also, no longer able to refrain myself, sent to know your faith, lest perhaps the tempter had tempted you and our labour should be come to nothing. 5 This is why I sent Timothy to you, so that I could know about your faith. I sent him when I could not wait anymore. I was afraid that the devil who tempts people might have defeated you with temptations. Then our hard work would have been wasted.5 Euen for this cause, when I could no longer forbeare, I sent him that I might knowe of your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you in any sort, and that our labour had bene in vaine.5 For this reason also, when I could no longer wait, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor was in vain. 5 That is why I had to send Timothy. I could not bear it any longer, so I sent him to find out about your faith. Surely it could not be that the Devil had tempted you and all our work had been for nothing! 5 Because of this, I also, when I[b] could endure it no longer, sent in order to know your faith, lest somehow the tempter tempted you and our labor should be in vain.5 Because of this, no longer enduring, I also sent to know your faith, that the tempting one not somehow tempt you, and our labor should come to be in vain.5 For this reason, (C1)when I could no longer endure the suspense, I (C2)sent someone to find out about your faith how you were holding up under pressure, for fear that somehow (C3)the tempter had tempted you and (C4)our work among you would prove to be ineffective.
5 For this cause I also, when I could no longer forbear, sent that I might know your faith, lest by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor should be in vain. 5 For this reason, when I was no longer able to keep quiet, I sent to get news of your faith, fearing that you might be tested by the Evil One and that our work might come to nothing.5 For this cause I also, when I couldn't stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain. 5 But when I could stand it no longer, I sent Timothy[fn] to find out about your faith. I was afraid that the tempter had tempted you in some way, and that our work had been a waste of time.[xr] 5 On account of this also, I, not enduring until I had sent to know your faith, lest the tempter should tempt you, and we should have laboured in vain;5 Therefore also I could not be quiet, until I sent to learn your faith; lest the Tempter should have tempted you, and our labor have been in vain.5 For this cause, when I coulde no longer forbeare, I sent to knowe your fayth, lest by some meanes the tempter had tempted you, and our labour had ben vayne.5 For this cause I also, when I could no longer forbear, sent that I might know your faith, lest by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labour should be in vain. 5 For this cause I also, when I couldn't stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain. 5 Therefore when I could bear no longer, I sent to know your faith, left by any means the tempter should have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.5 For this reason I also, when I could no longer endure the uncertainty, sent to know the condition of your faith, lest perchance the Tempter might have tempted you and our labour have been lost.5 Therfor Y Poul, no lenger abidinge, sente to knowe youre feith, lest perauenture he that temptith tempte you, and youre trauel be maad veyn.5 For this cause I also, when I could no longer forbear, sent that I might know your faith, lest by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor should be in vain.5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter may have tempted you, and our labor be in vain. 5 So when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter somehow tempted you and our toil had proven useless.5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might be in vain. 5 That is why, when I could bear it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was still strong. I was afraid that the tempter had gotten the best of you and that our work had been useless. 5 For this reason, I could wait no longer. I sent Timothy to find out about your faith. I was afraid the devil had tempted you. Then our work with you would be wasted. 5 For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith; I was afraid that somehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor had been in vain.5 For this cause, I also, no longer concealing my anxiety, sent, that I might get to know your faith, lest by any means he that tempteth, should have tempted you, and, in vain, should have been our toil.5 For this cause also, I, forbearing no longer, sent to know your faith: lest perhaps he that tempteth should have tempted you: and our labour should be made vain.5 For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent that I might know your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor would be in vain.5 For this cause when I coulde no lenger forbeare I sent that I myght have knowledge of youre fayth lest haply the tempter had tempted you and that oure laboure had bene bestowed in vayne.5 because of this also, I, no longer forbearing, did send to know your faith, lest he who is tempting did tempt you, and in vain might be our labour.5 because of this also, I, no longer enduring, sent to know your faith, lest he who is tempting tempted you, and our labor might be in vain.5 For this cause seynge I coulde no longer forbeare, I sent, that I mighte haue knowlege of youre faith, lest happly the tempter had tempted you, and lest oure laboure had bene in vayne.5 not being able therefore to wait any longer, I sent Timothy to know the state of your faith, for fear the tempter should have seduc'd you, and all our labour have prov'd abortive. 5 When I couldn't stand it any longer, I sent Timothy to give y'all a hand, but also to check on y'all. I was scared the devil might have snuck in and turned you away from the life God had called y'all to. I was hoping and praying all our hard work hadn't been for nothing.Encouraged by Timothy
