1 Corinthians 13
Love: The Superior Way
1 If I speak human or angelic tongues(F1) but do not have love,(C1) I am a noisy gong(C2) or a clanging cymbal.
1 Though I speake with the tongues of men & of Angels, and haue not charity, I am become as sounding brasse or a tinkling cymbal.
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
The Way of Love
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
The Excellence of Love
1 If I speak with the (C1)tongues of mankind and of (C2)angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a (C3)clanging cymbal.
1 I may speak in different languages[a] of people or even angels. But if I do not have love, I am only a noisy bell or a crashing cymbal.
The Excellence of Love
1 If I speak with the (C1)tongues of men and of (C2)angels, but have not (F1)love for others growing out of God's love for me, then I have become only a noisy gong or a (C3)clanging cymbal just an annoying distraction.
The Excellence of Love
1 If I speak with the (C1)tongues of men and of (C2)angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a (C3)clanging cymbal.
The Excellence of Love
1 If I speak with the (C1)tongues of men and of (C2)angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a (C3)clanging cymbal.
Love
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal.
Love
1 What if I could speak
all languages
of humans
and of angels?
If I did not love others,
I would be nothing more
than a noisy gong
or a clanging cymbal.
1 I may speak in the tongues of men, even angels;
but if I lack love, I have become merely
blaring brass or a cymbal clanging.
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Let Love Be Your Guide
1 I may speak in different languages, whether human or even of angels. But if I don't have love, I am only a noisy bell or a ringing cymbal.
1 Though I speake with the tongues of men and Angels, and haue not loue, I am as sounding brasse, or a tinkling cymbal.
1 THOUGH I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love in my heart, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
Love
1 I may be able to speak the languages of human beings and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell.
Love, the More Excellent Way
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a ringing brass gong or a clashing cymbal.
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
1 If I make use of the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am like sounding brass, or a loud-tongued bell.
1 If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don't have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
1 If I speak in the tongues of humans and angels but have no love, I have become a reverberating gong or a clashing cymbal.
1 Though in every tongue of men and of angels I spoke, and had not love, I should be as brass which soundeth, or a cymbal which giveth voice.
1 If I could speak in every tongue of men, and in that of angels, and there should be no love in me, I should be like brass that resoundeth, or the cymbal that maketh a noise.
1 Though I speake with the tongues of men and of Angels, and haue not loue, I am [as] soundyng brasse, or [as] a tincklyng Cimball:
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
1 If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don't have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1 If I can speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but am destitute of Love, I have but become a loud-sounding trumpet or a clanging cymbal.
1 If Y speke with tungis of men and of aungels, and Y haue not charite, Y am maad as bras sownynge, or a cymbal tynkynge.
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but don't have love, I have become sounding bronze, or a clanging cymbal.
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
The Way of Love
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Love Is the Greatest
1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Love—the Greatest of All
1 I may be able to speak the languages of men and even of angels, but if I do not have love, it will sound like noisy brass.
The Gift of Love
1 If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Although with the tongues of men, I be speaking, and of messengers, and have not, love, I have become resounding brass, or a clanging cymbal;
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Though I spake with the tonges of me and angels and yet had no love I were eve as soundinge brasse: or as a tynklynge Cymball.
1 If with the tongues of men and of messengers I speak, and have not love, I have become brass sounding, or a cymbal tinkling;
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of messengers, and do not have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal;
1 Though I spake with the tunges of men and angels, and yet had not loue, I were euen as sowndinge brasse, or as a tynklinge Cymball.
1 For tho' I should speak with the eloquence of men, and of angels, and not have social affection, I should be like sounding brass, or a noisy cymbal.
The Way of Love
1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love, I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
1 If I could speak every language on earth and even knew how to speak the angel's tongue, but I didn't have love . . . then I'm just yappin' like a coyote in the desert. A Top Hand Loves
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 2 And if I have (a)prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, (b)so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.2 If I have the gift of (C1)prophecy and know all (C2)mysteries and all (C3)knowledge, and if I have (C4)all faith so as to (C5)remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 2 I may have the gift of prophecy. I may understand all the secret things of God and have all knowledge, and I may have faith so great I can move mountains. But even with all these things, if I do not have love, then I am nothing. 2 And if I have the gift of (C1)prophecy and speak a new message from God to the people, and understand all (C2)mysteries, and possess all (C3)knowledge; and if I have (C4)all sufficient faith so that I can (C5)remove mountains, but do not have love reaching out to others, I am nothing.2 If I have the gift of (C1)prophecy, and know all (C2)mysteries and all (C3)knowledge; and if I have (C4)all faith, so as to (C5)remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.2 And if I have the gift of (C1)prophecy, and know all (C2)mysteries and all (C3)knowledge; and if I have (C4)all faith, so as to (C5)remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
2 What if I could prophesy
and understand all secrets
and all knowledge?
And what if I had faith
that moved mountains?
I would be nothing,
unless I loved others.
2 I may have the gift of prophecy,
I may fathom all mysteries, know all things,
have all faith — enough to move mountains;
but if I lack love, I am nothing.
2 And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 2 I may have the gift of prophecy, I may understand all secrets and know everything there is to know, and I may have faith so great that I can move mountains. But even with all this, if I don't have love, I am nothing.2 And though I had the gift of prophecie, and knewe all secrets and all knowledge, yea, if I had all faith, so that I could remooue mountaines and had not loue, I were nothing.2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love in my heart, I am nothing. 2 (a)I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains—but if I have no love, I am nothing. 2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and I know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 2 And if I have prophecies, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 2 And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 2 And if I have a prophet's power, and have knowledge of all secret things; and if I have all faith, by which mountains may be moved from their place, but have not love, I am nothing.2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am nothing. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all secrets and every form of knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains but have no love, I am nothing.[xr] 2 And though there were in me prophecy, and I knew all mysteries, and all knowledge, and though there were in me all faith, as that I could remove the mountain, Mountains.-WALTON'S edit.] and love were not in me, I should be nothing.2 2 And if there should be in me [fn] prophecy, and I should understand all the mysteries, and every science; and if there should be in me all faith, so that I could move mountains, and love should not be in me, I should be nothing. 2 And though I coulde prophesie, and vnderstoode all secretes, and all knowledge: Yea, if I had all fayth, so that I coulde moue mountaynes out of their places, and haue not loue, I were nothyng.2 And if I have [the gift of] prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am nothing. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.2 If I possess the gift of prophecy and am versed in all mysteries and all knowledge, and have such absolute faith that I can remove mountains, but am destitute of Love, I am nothing.2 And if Y haue prophecie, and knowe alle mysteries, and al kunnynge, and if Y haue al feith, so that Y meue hillis fro her place, and Y haue not charite, Y am nouyt.2 And if I have [the gift of] prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.2 And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 2 And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. 2 If I have the gift of speaking God's Word and if I understand all secrets, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I know all things and if I have the gift of faith so I can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 2 And, though I have the gift of prophesying, and know all sacred secrets, and all knowledge, - and though I have all faith, so as to be removing mountains, and have not, love, I am, nothing;2 And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.2 And though I coulde prophesy and vnderstode all secretes and all knowledge: yee yf I had all fayth so that I coulde move moutayns oute of ther places and yet had no love I were nothynge.2 and if I have prophecy, and know all the secrets, and all the knowledge, and if I have all the faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing;2 and if I have prophecy, and know all the secrets, and all the knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, and do not have love, I am nothing;2 And though I coulde prophecy, & vnderstode all secretes, and all knowlege, and had all faith, so that I coulde moue moutaynes out of their places, and yet had not loue, I were nothinge.2 and tho' I should have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and tho' I had all the faith necessary to remove mountains, and had no benevolence, it would signify nothing.
2 If I speak God's Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, "Jump," and it jumps, but I don't love, I'm nothing.2 If I had the power of God, could speak mighty words with supernatural knowledge, and had faith that could make mountains march, but if I didn't show love to others, I'm worthless. 3 And if I give away all my possessions, and if I give over my body in order to boast(F1) but do not have love, I gain nothing.
3 And though I bestowe all my goods to feede the poore, and though I giue my body to bee burned, and haue not charitie, it profiteth me nothing.3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 3 (c)If I give away all I have, and (d)if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing.3 And if I (C1)give away all my possessions to charity, and if I (C2)surrender my body so that I may (F1)glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.
3 I may give away everything I have, and I may even give my body as an offering to be burned.[b] But I gain nothing if I do not have love.3 If I (C1)give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I (C2)surrender my body (F1)to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.3 And if I (C1)give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I (C2)surrender my body (F1)to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.3 And if I (C1)give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I (C2)surrender my body (F1)to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.3 If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body(a), but have not love, I gain nothing.3 What if I gave away all
that I owned
and let myself
be burned alive?[a]
I would gain nothing,
unless I loved others.
3 I may give away everything that I own,
I may even hand over my body to be burned;
but if I lack love, I gain nothing.
3 And if I shall dole out all my goods in food, and if I deliver up my body that I may be burned, but have not love, I profit nothing. 3 I may give away everything I have to help others, and I may even give my body as an offering to be burned. But I gain nothing by doing all this if I don't have love.3 And though I feede the poore with all my goods, and though I giue my body, that I be burned, and haue not loue, it profiteth me nothing.3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love in my heart, I gain nothing. 3 I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be burned[a]—but if I have no love, this does me no good. 3 And if I parcel out all my possessions, and if I hand over my body in order that I will be burned,[a] but do not have love, it benefits me nothing.3 And if I give out all my goods, and if I deliver my body that I be burned, but I do not have love, I am not profited anything. 3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing. 3 And if I give all my goods to the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it is of no profit to me.3 If I dole out all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don't have love, it profits me nothing. 3 Even if I give away all that I have and surrender my body so that I may boast[fn] but have no love, I get nothing out of it.[xr] 3 And if all I have I make to feed the poor, and I deliver my body to burn, and love be not in me, I profit nothing.3 And if I should feed out to the destitute all I possess; and if I should give my body to be burned; and there should be no love in me, I gain nothing.3 And though I bestowe all my goodes to feede the poore, and though I geue my body that I burned, and haue not loue, it profiteth me nothyng.3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing. 3 If I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don't have love, it profits me nothing. 3 And though I give all my goods to feed the poor, and deliver up my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.3 And if I distribute all my possessions to the poor, and give up my body to be burned, but am destitute of Love, it profits me nothing.3 And if Y departe alle my goodis in to the metis of pore men, and yf Y bitake my bodi, so that Y brenne, and if Y haue not charite, it profitith to me no thing.3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and if I hand over my body that I may boast, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 3 If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit.3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, [fn] but have not love, it profits me nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;[a] but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing. 3 If I give everything I have to feed poor people and if I give my body to be burned, but do not have love, it will not help me. 3 If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast,[a] but do not have love, I gain nothing.3 And, though I morsel out all my goods, - and though I deliver up my body, that I may boast, and have not, love, I am profited, nothing.3 And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.3 And though I bestowed all my gooddes to fede ye poore and though I gave my body even that I burned and yet had no love it profeteth me nothinge.3 and if I give away to feed others all my goods, and if I give up my body that I may be burned, and have not love, I am profited nothing.3 and if I give away all my goods to feed others, and if I give up my body that I may be burned, and do not have love, I am profited nothing.3 And though I bestowed all my goodes to fede ye poore, and though I gaue my body euen that I burned, and yet haue not loue, it profiteth me nothinge.3 and tho' I distribute my whole substance to the poor, and give my body to be burned, and have not social affection, it profits me nothing. 3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.3 If I gave all my tack, horses, bits, and bridles, and everything else to the poor and even sacrificed my body to be burned up, I would be able to brag about it; but if I didn't love others, I have done nothing in God's eyes.
