David did this when he went to set up a monument for himself at the Euphrates River.[a]3 Then David slew Hadarezer the king of Nisibin, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

3 Next, David attacked King Hadadezer of the Syrian state of Zobah, near the territory of Hamath, because Hadadezer was trying to gain control of the territory by the upper Euphrates River. 3 And David struck Hadadezer, king of Zobah-Hamath, as he set up his monument at the Euphrates River. 3 And David struck Hadarezer the king of Zobah at Hamath, as he went to establish his power by the Euphrates River;3 He smote Hadad Eser also ye kynge of Zoba in Hemath, whan he wente to set vp his power by the water Euphrates.

And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but left one hundred of them to remain for chariots. 4 and David captured from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses , but left of them a hundred chariots.4 And Dauid toke from him a thousande charettes, seuen thousande horsmen, and twetye thousande fote men. And Dauid lamed all the charettes, and kepte an hundreth charettes ouer. 4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.4 And David took from him a thousand war-carriages and seven thousand horsemen and twenty thousand footmen: and he had the leg-muscles of all the horses cut, keeping only enough of them for a hundred war-carriages.4 And Dauid toke from him a thousand charets, and seuen thousande horsemen, and twentie thousande footemen, and lamed all the charet horses, and reserued of them an hundred charets.4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.4 And Dauid tooke from him a thousand charets, and seuen thousand horsemen, and twentie thousand footmen: Dauid also houghed all the charet horses, but reserued of them an hundred charets. 4 And David took of them a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand infantry: and David houghed all the chariot horses, but there were reserved of them a hundred chariots. 4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots. 4 Therfor Dauid took a thousynde foure horsid cartis of his, and seuene thousynde of horsmen, and twenti thousynde of foot men; and he hoxide alle the horsis of charis, outakun an hundrid foure horsid cartis, whiche he kepte to hym silf.4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot-[horses], but reserved of them a hundred chariots.4 David took from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand [fn] horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. 5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to assist King Hadadezer of Zobah,(C1) David struck down twenty-two thousand Aramean men. 5 When the Aram of Dammesek came to help Hadad`ezer king of Tzovah, David struck of the Aram twenty-two thousand men.

5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. 5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king (e)of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians.

5 Arameans from Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, but David killed twenty-two thousand of them. 5 The Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, but David killed 22,000 of the Arameans.

5 When the Arameans (Syrians) of (F1)Damascus came to help Hadadezer king (C1)of Zobah, David killed 22,000 of the Arameans.

5 When troops from the Syrian kingdom of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, David killed twenty-two thousand of them. 5 When the people of Aram from Dammesek came to the aid of Hadar‘ezer king of Tzovah, David killed 22,000 men of Aram.

5 And the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, and David smote of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men.

5 The Arameans from the city of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah. But David defeated and killed 22,000 Aramean soldiers.5 And when the Edomites and the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Nisibin, David slew of the Edomites twenty-two thousand men.

5 When Arameans from Damascus arrived to help King Hadadezer, David killed 22,000 of them.

5 The Syrians of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah. But David killed 22,000 of the Syrian men. 5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand Arameans. 5 And, when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians, twenty-two thousand men.5 And the Syrians of Damascus came also to help Adarezer king of Soba: and David slew of them likewise two and twenty thousand men.5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadade'zer king of Zobah, David slew twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.5 And Aram of Damascus cometh in to give help to Hadarezer king of Zobah, and David smiteth in Aram twenty and two thousand men,5 And Aram of Damascus comes to give help to Hadarezer king of Zobah, and David strikes twenty-two thousand men in Aram,5-6 When the Arameans from Damascus came to the aid of Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of them. David set up a puppet government in Aram-Damascus. The Arameans became subjects of David and were forced to bring tribute. God gave victory to David wherever he marched.

5 When the Arameans of (F1)Damascus came to help Hadadezer king (C1)of Zobah, David (F2)killed 22,000 men of the Arameans.6 Then he placed garrisons(F1)(C1) in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became David’s subjects and brought tribute. The Lord made David victorious wherever he went.

6 Then David put [garrisons] in Aram of Dammesek; and the Aram became servants to David, and brought tribute. The LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.

The Lord protected David wherever he campaigned. 6 Then David put military outposts among the Arameans in Damascus; and the Arameans became David's servants and brought tribute. Thus the LORD helped David wherever he went.6 Then David put garrisons among the Arameans of (F1)Damascus; and the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And the LORD helped David wherever he went.6 Then David put [garrisons] in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went. 6 And Dauid put a garison in Aram of Damascus, & the Aramites became Dauids seruants, and brought giftes: and the Lorde preserued Dauid wheresoeuer he went.6 Then David placed garrisons among the Arameans of (F1)Damascus; and the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And Yahweh granted salvation to David wherever he went.6 Then he placed garrisons(a) in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious(a) wherever he went. 6 Then David stationed some of his troops in Damascus, and the people there had to accept David as their ruler and pay taxes to him.

Everywhere David went, the Lord helped him win battles. 6 Then David put [garrisons] among the people of Aram in Dammesek; Aram became subject to David and paid tribute. Adonai gave victory to David wherever he went.
