מַחֲלֹקֶת , suff. מַֽחֲלֻקְתִּי, plur. מַחְלְקוֹת (from the root חָלַק).
(1) smoothness, hence slipping away, flight (compare מָלַט), and so in pr.n. סֶלַע הַמַּחְלְקוֹת the rock of escapings, 1 Samuel 23:28.
(2) an order, course, especially used of the twenty-four courses of the priests and Levites (ἐφημέριαι, κλῆροι), 1 Chronicles 27:1, sqq.; 2 Chronicles 8:14, 31:2 35:4.
