Niph`al Perfect 3 plural נִכְמְרוּ Genesis 43:30 2t., נִכְמָ֑רוּ Lamentations 5:10; —
1 grow warm and tender, figurative, subject רחמים; ׳רַחֲמָיו אֶלאָֿחִיונ Genesis 43:30 (J), so רַחֲמֶיהָ עַלבְּֿנָהּ׳נ 1 Kings 3:26; (רַחֲמָ֑י We) נִחוּמָ֑י׳יַחַד נ Hosea 11:8 ("" עָלַי לִבִּינֶהְמַּךְ).
2 be or grow hot, ׳עוֺרֵנוּ כְתַנּוּר נ׳מִמְּנֵי וגו Lamentations 5:10 our skin has become hot like a furnace, because of the famine.
II. כמר (? √ of following; compare Syriac black, dark, usually gloomy, sad; , be sad).
כָּמַר a root unused in Kal; kindred to the root חָמַר (compare חָמַם, חוּם).
(1) to grow hot, to become warm, to glow; see Niphal No. 1 (Talmud כומר, a warming).
(2) to be burned, scorched (see Niphal No. 2); hence to be black, dark, obscure, like the Syriac ܟܡܰܪ to be sad, sorrowful. Aphel, to go about in black, i.e. mourning. Compare כִּמְדִירִים כֹּמֶר.
Niphal
(1) to be warm, to glow, used of love towards any one; followed by עַל 1 Kings 3:26, and אֶל Genesis 43:20 to be moved, spoken of pity, Hosea 11:8.
(2) to be scorched; Lamentations 5:10, “our skin is scorched as in an oven from the burning heat of of the famine.”
II.
כָּמַר i.q. כָּבַר to plait, to braid; whence מַכְמוֹר מִכְמָר, מִכְמֶרֶת a net.
