For the Hellenistic usage of this word = ";clothing"; generally, as in Luke 7:25, Acts 20:38 see P Hib I. 54.16 (c. B.C. 245) ἐχέτω δὲ καὶ ἱματισμὸν ὡς ἀστειότατον, ";and let him wear as fine clothes as possible"; (Edd.), the contract I Tebt II. 384.19 (A.D. 10) τρο ]φ [ῆς καὶ ] ἱματισμοῦ καὶ λαογραφίας, ";keep and clothing and poll-tax,"; and the will ib. 381.13 (A.D. 123) (= Selection, p. 78) σκεύηι καὶ ἐνδομενίαν καὶ ἱματισμόν, ";utensils and household-stock and clothing."; P Ryl II. 189.2 (A.D. 128) is a receipt issued by the ";receivers of public clothing"; to certain weavers for the delivery of tunics and cloaks for the guards—δημοσίο ̣(υ) ἱματισμο ̣υ ̣ͅ κουστωδιω ̣ν. The word is used of a bride’s ";trousseau,"; ";dowry,"; as in Tobit 10:10 א, in P Eleph 1.4 (B.C. 311–0) (= Selections, p. 2) προσφερομένην εἱματισμὸν καὶ κόσμον (δραχμὰς) α, ";the bride bringing clothing and adornment to the value of 1000 drachmae"; : cf. BGU IV. 1101.10 (B.C. 13) χορη (γεῖν) αὐτὸ (ν) τῇ Διονυσί (αι) τὰ δέοντα πάντα καὶ τὸν εἱματισ (μόν). This spelling with εἱμ – is frequent in the inscrr. e.g. Syll 939.6 πορφύρε [ο ]ν εἱματισμόν : it is, as Dittenberger remarks ad l., ";origini vocis accommodatior."; See also s.v. ἱμάτιον ad fin.
