Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

טָרַף fut. יִטְרֹף, once יִטְרַף Genesis 49:27.

(1) to pluck off (kindred to טָרָה, טָרַם, comp. Gr. θρύπτω), hence Arab. طَرُفَ to be fresh (frifch abgebrochen), Heb. טָרָף, טֶרֶף No. 3.

(2) to pull, tear, in pieces as a wild beast, Genesis 37:33, 44:28 Deuteronomy 33:20 Psal. 22:14 Nahum 2:13. Metaph. used of anger, Job 16:9, 18:4 and thus even of God, Psal. 50:22, פֶּן־אֶטְרֹף “lest I tear” like wild beasts. Hosea 6:1.
