 חָטַם verb hold in, restrain (Arabic strike the nose, attach the = camel-halter, noun muzzle, nose of beast; Late Hebrew חֲטָם nose-ring of camel, חוֺטָם; Aramaic חוּטְמָא nose; compare חטם, Inscription Zinjirli; according to DHM Sendsch. 34, of taming wild beasts) —

Qal Imperfect אֶחֱטָםלָֿ֑ךְלְבִלְתִּי הַכְרִיֶ˜תךָ ׃ Isaiah 48:9 I will restrain for thee (mine anger), not to cut thee off ("" אַאֲרִיךְ אַמִּי).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

חָטַם to stop the mouth of an animal with a muzzle, to muzzle. (Arabic خطم, whence خِطَامُ a muzzle. Cognate roots are חָסַם, עָצַם also חָתַם, comp. my remarks on the signification of the syllables דם, טם, תם, p. 203.) Of a kindred power to this root are domare, dämmen, zudämmen, zähmen. Metaph. Isaiah 48:9, אֶחֱטָם־לָךְ “I tame or muzzle (myself [‘my anger’]) towards thee, I restrain myself.”
