Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

שִׁלֵּשִׁים m. plur. descendants of the third generation, great-grandchildren, Exodus 20:5, 34:7. בְּנֵי שִׁלֵּשִׁים Genesis 50:23, children of great grand-children, i.q. רִבֵּעִים abnepotes. Some have incorrectly taken שִׁלֵּשִׁים for the grandchildren themselves, who are called בְּנֵי בָנִים, and in Exodus 34:7, they are expressly distinguished from these; (in Exodus 20:5, grandchildren, i.e. בְּנֵי בָנִים do not appear to be mentioned).
