Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

פֶּלֶס m. a balance (so called from the idea of equilibrium), Proverbs 16:11; Isaiah 40:12. In each place it is joined with מאֹזְנַיִם, and it appears properly to denote a steelyard (Arab. تَفْليسُ, Germ. Schnellwage).
