שׁקץ (√ of following; compare Assyrian šikƒu, apparently a (skin-?) disease; Late Hebrew Pi`el שַׁקֵּץ, Aramaic Pa`el שַׁקֵּץ detest are denominative; RS Jphil.xiv. 71ff. conjecture original meaning let fall, throw away, compare Arabic fall, drop down, but very dubious).
