אֵטוּן (by a Syriacism for אֱטוּן) m., thread, yarn, of linen or cotton, Garn (Ch. string, cord). Once found, Proverbs 7:16, “coverings of Egyptian thread,” which was of the greatest fineness, and as highly esteemed as Turkish yarn is now (Türkifches Garn) in Germany. Compare Cels. Hierob. i., 89, seq. Alb. Schultens compares Gr. ὀθόνη, ὀθόνιον (linen garment). Root אָטַן.
