חֵקֶר (1) searching, investigation, Job 34:24. אֵין חֵקֶר that which cannot be sought out, Proverbs 25:3 hence used of any thing that is innumerable, Job 5:9, 9:10 36:26 also deliberation, Judges 5:16.
(2) that which is known by investigation, hidden, secret. Job 38:16, חֵקֶר תְּהוֹם “the most secret recesses of the sea.” Metaph. חֵקֶר אֱלוֹהַּ Job 11:7, i.q. τὰ βάθεα τοῦ θεοῦ. [Prof. Lee questions the propriety of this comparison on the ground of the Hebrew construction.]
