דָּקַר fut. O. to thrust through, to pierce, as with a sword or spear. Aram. ܕܩܰܪ, דְּקַר id. Numbers 25:8; Judges 9:54; 1 Samuel 31:4.

Pual id. Jeremiah 37:10, 51:4 Lamentations 4:9, “happier are those slain by the sword than by famine, שֶׁהֵם יָזֻבוּ מְדֻּקָּרִים מִתְּנוּבוֹת שָׂדַי for these waste away, pierced through, (i.e. slain) for want of the produce of the field.” מְדֻקָּרִים is put in this place by a bold figure as to those who perish from famine, as in the former member חַלְלִיִ רָעָב is opposed to חַלְלֵי חֶרֶב (comp.
