דִּמְעָה f. a tear, commonly coll. tears. (Arab. دَمْعُ tears, دَمْعَةُ a single tear. In like manner in Greek δάκρυ is commonly used by the poets collect.) Psal. 6:7 39:13 56:9. The plur. however occurs דְּמָעוֹת Psalms 80:6; Lamentations 2:11. As to the expression of Jeremiah, תֵּרֵד עֵינִי דִּמְעָה “my eye runs down with tears,” see under the word יָרַד.
