Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

גֶּזַע m. with suff. גִּזְּעֹו the trunk of a felled tree, Job 14:8 hence, any trunk, Isaiah 11:1 and even that of a tree newly planted, and putting forth its first roots, Isaiah 40:24. Arabic جِذعُ the trunk of a palm; Syr. ܓܘܽܙܥܳܐ a trunk, a slender stem.
