בַּתָּה fem. desolation (from the root בָּתַת No. 2. Isaiah 7:19, נַחֲלֵי הַבַּתּוֹת “desolated (desert) vallies,” or “abrupt vallies” (comp. בָּצוּר broken off, abrupt, headlong, and ῥαγάς from ῥήγνυμι); but the former meaning is preferable. It does not appear that we should read differently the ἄπαξ λεγόμενον
