בָּתָה fem. Isaiah 5:6, where it is said of a vineyard: אֲשִׁיתֵהוּ בָתָה, as if אֲשִׁיתֵהוּ כָלָה Germ. ich will ihm das Garaus machen. Vulg. “ponam eam desertam.” “I will lay it desolate.” The grammarians have not been consistent with regard to this form, which ought in each case to have the same vowels. [But still a variation in the vowels is not unfrequent; here we have a long vowel in the one case to compensate for dagesh in the other.]
