בָּשָׂם or בְּשָׂם (with Kametz impure) m., balsam, the balsam plant, formerly frequent in the gardens of Judæa, and still cultivated at Tiberias, Song of Solomon 5:1. (Arab. بَشَامُ an odorous shrub, like the balsam tree; by the insertion of Lam quadril. بلسام, بلسم, بلسان βάλσαμος, the balsam tree.) [“Ch. and Talmud. בּוּסְמָן, also אֲפַרְסְמוֹן, l being changed into r.”]
