בְּעִיר m., cattle, beasts, so called from their depasturing, (from the root בָּעַר No. 1; compare אָרָה No. 2). Used in the sing. collectively, like the Latin pecus, pecoris, of all kinds of cattle, Exodus 22:4; Numbers 20:4, Numbers 20:8, 11 Numbers 20:11; Psalms 78:48 specially of beasts of burden, Genesis 45:17. (Syr. ܒܥܺܪ̈ܐܳ with Ribbui, the pl. mark; Arab. بَعِيُر id.)
