מַשְׂכִּית f.
(1) image, figure, from the root שָׂכָה, Ch. שְׂכָא to look at, to behold, Ezekiel 8:12, מַשְׂכִּית חַדְרֵי “the chambers of images,” i.e. the walls of which were adorned with painted figures of idols, compare verses 10 Ezekiel 8:10, 11 Ezekiel 8:11. אֶבֶן מַשְׂכִּית Leviticus 26:1, and מַשְׂכִּיּוֹת Numbers 33:52, stones adorned with superstitious or magical figures; Proverbs 25:11, תַּפּוּחֵי זָהָב בְּמַשְׂכִּיּוֹת כֶּסֶף “apples of gold, adorned with figures of silver.” Others render, in silver baskets, so that מַשְׂכִּית would take its signification from שָׂכַךְ to plait.
(2) imagination, opinion, Psalms 73:7; Proverbs 18:11.
