Vocabulary of the Greek NT

";have respect of persons,"; ";favour specially"; (James 2:9). The verb and the two cognate substantives προσωπολήμπτης and προσωπολημψία are not found in the LXX, and may be reckoned amongst the earliest definitely Christian words. They belong to Palestinian Greek, being derived from πρόσωπον λαμβάνειν, the Hebraistic פָנִים נָשָׂא, ";lift the face"; on a person, in the sense of being favourable to him, and hence, as always in the NT, to ";show undue favour or partiality.";
