= cross παροινικός, Pratin.Lyr. 1.8. Lys. 4.8, Antiph. 146, etc.; μάχαι π. Anacreont. 40.12; τὸ σὸν π. Men. Pk. 444. Adv. - νως Poll. 6.21.
II = cross παροίνιος 11, ὄρχησις Ath. 14.629e.
πάροινος, πάροινον, a later Greek word for the earlier παροίνιος (παρά (which see IV. 1) and οἶνος, one who sits long at his wine), given to wine, drunken: 1 Timothy 3:3; Titus 1:7; (others give it the secondary sense, 'quarrelsome over wine'; hence, brawling, abusive).

περιπατέω.
On the ethical use of this verb ";conduct my life,"; corresponding to the Heb. הָלַךְ, see Proleg. p. II. For the literal meaning ";walk,"; ";go about,"; cf. BGU III. 846.9 (ii/A.D.) (= Selections, p. 94) σαπρῶς παι ̣ρι ̣πατῶ (l. περιπατῶ), ";I am going about in a disgraceful state,"; P Fay 126.2 (ii/iii A.D.) περ [ι ]πατοῦντός μου σὺν τῷ πατρί, and BGU II. 380.13 (iii/A.D.) περπατῶ (l. περιπατῶ) μετὰ οὗ ἐὰν εὔρω. In P Lond 981.11 (iv/A.D.) (= III. p. 242, Chrest. I. p. 157) περιοδεύομεν καὶ περιπατοῦμεν νυκτῆμαρ, the words are addressed apparently by subordinate church officials to a bishop : see Ghedini Lettere, p. 170 f.

In Menander Ἐπιτρ. 12 δίκας λέγοντες περιπατεῖτε, the verb is almost = ";live."; MGr περιπατῶ, περπατῶ, περβατῶ.
