II as military term, τὴν φάλαγγα ἀ. fold back the phalanx, i.e. deepen it by countermarching from front to rear, X. Cyr. 7.5.3; conversely, τὸ κέρας ἀ. open out the wing, i.e. extend the line by countermarching from rear to front, X. An. 1.10.9, cf. Plu. Pel. 23, Arr. Tact. 9.5.
ἀναπτύσσω: 1 aorist ἀνεπτυξα; (ἀνά — cf. the German auf equivalent toauseinander, see ἀναλύω — and πτύσσω to fold up, roll together); to unroll (i. e. open for reading): τό βιβλίον (as in Herodotus 1, 48 and 125), Luke 4:17 (R G T) (2 Kings 19:14).
