As distinguished from θεραπεύω ";treat medically"; (see s.v. θεραπεύω and cf. Acts 28:8 f.) ἰάομαι denotes ";heal,"; as in Syll 802.113 (referred to s.v. ἴαμα) ανὴρ δάκτυλον ἰάθη ὑπὸ ὄφιος, and the similar 803.7 τοῦτο ]ν τυφλὸν ἐόντα ἰάσατο : cf. also the magic text BGU IV. 1026xxii. 15 αἱμάροϊαν ἰᾶται. On the Lukan usage of the verb see Hobart, p. 8 ff., and on the ";aoristic present"; in Acts 9:34 see Proleg. p. 119. Thayer’s hint of a connexion with ἰός is not supported by modern philologists, see Boisacq, p. 362.
