We are unable to illustrate the meaning of ";shame"; which this word has in its two NT occurrences (1 Corinthians 6:5; 1 Corinthians 15:34, cf. Psa. 34:26 [MT Psalms 35:26], Psa. 43:15 [MT Psalms 44:15] al.), and which survives in MGr; but for the derived sense of ";respect,"; ";reverence,"; cf. OGIS 323.7 (B.C. 159–38) πολὺ δὲ τῶν καθ᾽ ἑαυτὸν συνέσει καὶ παιδείαι προάγων [παρὰ μὲ ]ν τοῖς ἄλλοις ἐντροπῆς καὶ δόξης δικαίως ἐτύγχαμεν, and the late magical papyrus P Lond 46.17 (iv/A.D.) (= I. p. 65) δὸς ἐντροπὴν τῷ φανέντι πρὸ πυρός.
