II overwhelm, submerge, of a flood, οἰκίας Plu. 2.306f: Pass., Id. Daed. 7.

III metaph., β. ἀνθρώπους εἰς ὄλεθρον 1 Timothy 6:9 : Pass., to be ruined, τοὺς διὰ φιλοκερδίαν βυθιζομένους Phld. Mort. 33; τὸ νῆφον ὑπὸ τοῦ πάθους βυθίζεται Alciphr. 1.13; νοῦς βυθισθεὶς θυμῷ ἢ ἐπιθυμίᾳ Simp. in Ph. 273.11, cf. Hld. 7.12.

Thayer's Expanded Definition

βυθίζω; (present passive βυθίζομαι); (βυθός, which see); to plunge into the deep, to sink: ὥστε βυθίζεσθαι αὐτά, of ships (as Polybius 2, 10, 5; 16, 3, 2 (Aristotle, Diodorus, others)), so that they began to sink, Luke 5:7; metaphorically, τινα εἰς ὄλεθρον (A. V. drown), 1 Timothy 6:9.
