From the well known subtilty of this creature, the sacred writers make use of his name, by way of describing craft, and hypocrisy, and guile. Hence false prophets are called in Scripture foxes. (Ezekiel 13:4) And the church in the Canticles is forewarned against them. (Song of Song of Solomon 2:15) The Lord Jesus makes application of the name to Herod. (Luke 13:32)
