Mutilated, disfigured, or seriously injured, especially by loss of a limb (Matthew 18:8; Mark 9:43 ). In the ancient world the maimed had difficulty finding work and relied on the generosity of others (Luke 14:13 ). A worthless shepherd (leader) does not care for the maimed (Zechariah 11:16 NRSV).
