(gir' zite) See Gezrite . National name of uncertain meaning appearing in some Hebrew text traditions of 1 Samuel 27:8 , while another Hebrew tradition reads Gizrites, and the Greek tradition omits the name. Gizrite would refer to Gezer, which is too far north for the present context. Some scholars would change the text to Girgashites, assuming an early copying change. If Girzite is correct, it refers to an otherwise unknown tribe living in the southern regions of Palestine.
