(am uh ri' ah) Personal name meaning “Yahweh has spoken.” Popular name, especially among priests, after the Exile. Brief biblical comments make it difficult to distinguish the number of separate individuals. The following division is one attempt to separate them. 1. A priest in line of Aaron (1Chronicles 6:7,1 Chronicles 6:52; Ezra 7:3 ). 2 . A priest in the high priestly line after Solomon's day (1 Chronicles 6:11 ). 3 . A priestly son of Hebron in Moses' line (1 Chronicles 23:19; 1 Chronicles 24:23 ). 4 . The chief priest and highest judge of matters involving religious law under King Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 19:11 ). 5 . Priest under Hezekiah responsible for distributing resources from Jerusalem Temple to priests in priestly cities outside Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 31:15 ). 6 . Man with foreign wife under Ezra (Ezra 10:42 ). 7 . Priest who sealed Nehemiah's covenant to obey the law (Nehemiah 10:3 ). 8 . Ancestor of a member of tribe of Judah living in Jerusalem during Nehemiah's time (Nehemiah 11:4 ). 9 . A priest who returned to Jerusalem from Exile in Babylon with Zerubbabel (Nehemiah 12:2 ). 10 . Head of a course of priests in Judah after the Exile (Nehemiah 12:13 ). 11 . An ancestor of Zephaniah, the prophet (Zephaniah 1:1 ).
