Verses 1-33
Chapter 13 begins a description of the division of the land. Verses 2-3 name the unconquered areas in the south, while those in the north are described in 4-6. If Israel had have been obedient and faithful to God, they would have been able to drive out the people with God's help as promised in verse 6. However, they were not and ultimately were corrupted by the evil influence left in the land. The remainder of chapter 13 details the inheritance of land given to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh in accord with Moses' directions in Num_32:1-42 and Deu_3:1-29 .
