Contextual Overview

11 God hath sworne for a trueth vnto Dauid, and he wyll not go from it: I wyll place vpon thy throne some of the fruite of thy body. 12 If thy chyldren wyll kepe my couenaunt and my testimonies whiche I wyll teache them: their chyldren also shall sit vpon thy throne for euermore. 13 For God hath chosen [to be in] Sion: he had a desire that it might be an habitation for hym. 14 This [is sayeth he] my rest for euer: heare I wyll dwell, for I haue a desire to it. 15 I wyll aboundauntly powre my blessinges vpon her victuals: and I wyll satisfie her poore with bread. 16 I wyll clothe her priestes with saluation: and her saintes shall make an exceeding ioyfull noyse. 17 I will make there the horne of Dauid to bud vp: I wyll ordayne a light for mine annoynted. 18 I wyll clothe his enemies with shame: but his crowne shall florishe vppon hym selfe.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

For the Lord hath chosen Zion,.... Not only to build upon it the temple in a literal sense, and for the place of his worship; but also for the seat of his majesty, and over which he has set his Son as King; and all this from the love he bears to Zion, which, in a figurative and spiritual sense, is his church; whom he has chosen to privileges, to grace and glory, and for his service and honour; see

Psalms 78:67;

he hath desired [it] for his habitation; heaven is the habitation of his holiness and glory; Christ is his dwelling place, in whom all the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily: yet his desire is to his church and people; his heart is set upon them, and upon their salvation; his delight is in them, and he takes pleasure in walking with them, and dwelling among them; they being built up an habitation for God through the Spirit; see Psalms 68:16.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

For the Lord hath chosen Zion - He has selected it as the place where he will abide; the seat of his religion. This is a new plea or argument, and shows that the psalm had reference to Zion or Jerusalem, as then in danger, or as having been in danger. See the notes at Psalms 48:1-2.

He hath desired it for his habitation - A place where to abide. Its had selected this as the permanent place of his worship.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse Psalms 132:13. The Lord hath chosen Zion — Therefore neither Shiloh nor Kirjath-jearim is the place of his rest.
