He aunswered hym, and sayde: Thou sayest it. ⁴ Then saide Pilate to the hye priestes, and to the people: I finde no fault in this man. ⁵ And they were the more fierce, saying: He moueth the people, teaching thorowout al Iurie, and began at Galilee, euen to this place. ⁶ When Pilate hearde [mention] of Galilee, he asked whether the man were of Galilee. ⁷ And assoone as he knewe that he belonged vnto Herodes iurisdiction, he sent hym to Herode, whiche was also at Hierusalem at that tyme. ⁸ And when Herode sawe Iesus, he was exceeding glad: For he was desirous to see hym of a long season, because he had hearde many thinges of hym, and he trusted to haue seene some miracle done by hym. ⁹ Then he questioned with hym many wordes: But he aunswered hym nothing. ¹⁰ The hye priestes and scribes stoode foorth, and accused hym straytely.

And Pilate asked him, saying,.... Observing that it was said, he had given himself out to be a king; for as for what regarded religion, he took no notice of it; he put this question to him,

art thou the King of the Jews? that their prophecies speak of, and they have expected;

and he answered him and said, thou sayest it; that is, thou sayest well; it is as thou sayest, I am the King of the Jews;

:- though he did not leave this without an explanation; without informing him what sort of a king he was, and what kind of a kingdom he had; see John 18:36 which made Pilate perfectly easy, and desirous to release him, as appears by what follows.
