Revelation 5

A Lion and a Lamb

1 Then the one on the throne had a scroll in his right hand. It was sealed with seven seals and had writing on the inside and out from what I could tell. 2 Just then a mighty angel roared, "Who is worthy to open the scroll?" 3 But no one in heaven or earth was able to open it and read what it said.

4 Tears formed in my eyes because there was no one good enough to break the seals and see what the scroll said. 5 One of the twenty-four old bosses turned to me and said, "Quit your snivelin'! Look there, the Lion of the tribe of Judah has won and is worthy to open the scroll."

6 But when I turned to look, I saw a Lamb that had been slaughtered. It was standing in front of the throne and all the others gathered there. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which somehow, I knew was the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent to all corners of the earth. 7 The slaughtered Lamb stepped forward and took the scroll from the right hand of the Mighty One who sat on the throne. 8 When he'd taken it, all the old bosses and animals circling the throne fell down before the Lamb. All of them had a harp and bowls filled with prayers to God that smelled like incense. 9 A new song began, "You alone are worthy to open the seals. Your blood was used to purchase every person from every tribe and every nation. Your sacrifice was enough! 10 They are now a kingdom of priests that serve God and God alone, and they will rule the earth."

11 I looked again and saw millions of angels around the throne and around those gathered there. 12 They sang in a loud voice, "The Lamb that was slaughtered has been found worthy—power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise are his!"

13 And then all of creation itself lifted its voice to join in, "All bow down to the One on the throne and to the Lamb. Glory and honor forever!"

14 When the song was finished, the four creatures surrounding the throne said, "Amen!" And the old bosses took a knee and worshipped again.
