11Meanwhile, Jesus stood before the governor of the territory and the governor asked him, "Are you the Jews' boss?""Yup," Jesus replied.
12When he was accused by the head honchos of the church, he didn't answer.
13Then Pilate asked him, "Don't you hear what they are sayin' about you?"
14But Jesus didn't answer. He didn't say one word about any of the charges. His silence baffled Pilate.
15There was an old tradition during this time of the year, to release one prisoner who the crowd chose.
16There was a ruthless bandito named Barabbas who was in jail at this time.
17When the crowd gathered around, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to release: Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called the Boss's Son?"
18He knew that it was out of jealousy that they had shoehorned Jesus and turned him in.
19While Pilate was actin' as judge and executioner, his wife sent him a note that said, "Don't have anything to do with that innocent fellow! I have been plagued by awful dreams because of this."
20But the head honchos of the church lobbied the crowd and persuaded them to release the bandito and have Jesus strung up.

Then saith Pilate unto him,.... Observing he made no reply to the accusations of the chief priests and elders, and in order to draw something out of him,
hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? art thou deaf? or dost thou not take in what is alleged against thee? dost thou not consider the nature of these charges? how many, and of what kind the depositions are now made by persons of such rank and figure? art thou under no concern to make answer to them?
Barnes' Notes on the Bible
They witness against thee - This means, rather, that they accused him. They were not âwitnesses,â but accusers. These accusations were repeated and pressed. They charged him with exciting the people, teaching throughout, all Judea from Galilee to Jerusalem, and exciting the nation to sedition, Luke 23:5.
