Contextual Overview

12After all this, Jesus rode up into the mountains to pray. He spent the whole night talking to his Dad. 13The next day, he gathered all his followers to him and announced they were going to be his cowboys: 14Simon (Jesus changed it to Pete), his brother Andy, James, John, Phil, Bart, 15Matt, Tom, Alphaeus's boy James, Simon the Fanatic, 16James's boy Judas, and Judas Iscariot, who would later double-cross his Boss. 17Jesus and his cowboys came off the mountain and a large group of other people who rode with them were waiting. They were from all over Judea, Jerusalem, Tyre, and Sidon. 18They all came to listen to Jesus's clinics on how to ride for God and be healed of the cankers, cancers, and even their demons. 19Everyone mashed in trying to touch him because everyone who did was healed.

Luke 17:27
People paid no mind to God and only cared about eating and drinking and taking care of themselves. They were all still doing this when Noah entered his boat and sealed up the door. Then the flood came, and everyone else was destroyed.
1 Peter 3:20
I'm talking about those who scoffed at Noah while he built his boat. Only eight folks survived the flood and the rest drowned like rats.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Simon, whom he also named Peter,.... Which signifies a rock, or stone, as Cephas also does, see John 1:42 from his constancy, steadfastness, and solidity:

and Andrew his brother; who was called at the same time with him, and were brethren, both in nature and grace:

James and John: the two sons of Zebedee, who were called next:

Philip and Bartholomew; the latter of these is by some thought to be Nathanael.
