BARTHOLOMEW . One of the Twelve, mentioned only in the lists of the Apostles ( Matthew 10:3 = Mark 3:18 = Luke 6:14 ). Jerome says that he wrote a Gospel, preached to the Indians, and died at Albanopolis in Armenia. Bartholomew is really not a name, but a patronymic Bar Talmai = ‘son of Talmai’ (cf. 2 Samuel 13:37 ).
