Simplified Cowboy Version
Acts 6
1 In the days that followed, more and more people saddled up to ride for God's outfit. But things weren't always rosy in the crew. The cowboys from Greece complained about the cowboys from Israel, saying the Greek widows were being left out of the food distribution.
2 The twelve cowboys gathered everyone together and said, "We are not going to stop traveling around and preaching the good news so we might wait tables for the poor. 3 But, it is vitally important to care for the needy and so we are going to find seven cowboys who are known to have the Holy Ghost in their life and have them be responsible for caring for the poor. 4 We will then be able to focus on prayer and gathering the lost."5 Everyone thought this was a great plan. They chose the following cowboys: Steve (a cowboy full of faith and the Holy Ghost), Phil, Procorus, Nic, Tim, Parmenas, and Nick of Antioch (who had converted to the Jewish faith earlier).
6 These seven men presented themselves to the cowboys and the cowboys blessed them.7 So the word of God spread like wildfire through the countryside. The number of cowboys riding for the brand in Jerusalem swelled every day. Even a large number of Jewish priests saddled up too.
Steve Is Arrested
8 Steve, a cowboy full of the grace of God and full of God's power, did amazing miracles for the people.
9 But one day some fellows from the Freed-Slave Church started a fight with him. They were Jews from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cicilia, and Asia. 10 They tried to trap Steve with fancy words and accusations, but they were no match for the wisdom from the Holy Ghost with which Steve spoke.11 When they couldn't beat him, they had some scoundrels lie and say they heard Steve talk crap about Moses, and even God.
12 This riled up the people who heard it and word got back to bigwigs. They sent some deputies to arrest Steve and bring him before the council.13 The liars said, "This man is always talking crap about Moses and those in the church.
14 We heard him say Jesus of Nazareth was going to tear the church down and change the Code Moses gave us."15 No one said a word because they were all looking at Steve, whose face was shining as bright as an angel's.
