When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
And when the sixth houre was come, there was darkenesse ouer the whole land, vntill the ninth houre.
And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

At noon the sky became extremely dark. The darkness lasted three hours. At three o'clock, Jesus groaned out of the depths, crying loudly, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?"
It was now the midday hour, and when the clock had struck high noon, darkness descended over the entire country for three hours.

And when the sixth hour was come,.... Or twelve o'clock at noon, having hung upon the cross from about the third hour, or nine in the morning:
there was darkness over the, whole land until the ninth hour; or three o'clock in the afternoon. The Ethiopic version renders the whole thus, "and when it was noon, the sun was darkened, and the whole world was darkened until the ninth hour";
