Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan.
Now these are the nations which Yahweh left, to prove Israel by them, even as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
These are the nations the Lord did not force to leave. He wanted to test the Israelites who had not fought in the wars of Canaan.
These were the nations the Lord permitted to remain so he could use them to test Israel—he wanted to test all those who had not experienced battle against the Canaanites.
Now these [are] the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, ([even] as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
Now these are the nations which Yahweh left, to prove Israel by them, even as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
Now these are the nations which the LORD left [in order] to test Israel by them (that is, all [the people of Israel] who had not [previously] experienced any of the wars in Canaan;

And these [are] the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;
These are the nations the LORD left to test all the Israelites who had not known any of the wars in Canaan,
And the Lord had another reason for letting these enemies stay. The Israelites needed to learn how to fight in war, just as their ancestors had done. Each new generation would have to learn by fighting
Now these are the nations which Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
Now these are the nations which the Lord kept in the land for the purpose of testing Israel by them, all those who had had no experience of all the wars of Canaan;
These are the nations whiche the Lorde left, that he might proue Israel by them: (euen as many of Israel as had not knowen al the warres of Chanaan:
These are the nations which Adonai allowed to remain, in order to put to the test all the people of Isra'el who had not known any of the wars with Kena‘an.
And these are the nations that Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, all that had not known all the wars of Canaan;
The Lord did not force all the other nations to leave Israel's land. He wanted to test the Israelites. None of the Israelites living at this time had fought in the wars to take the land of Canaan. So he let those other nations stay in their country. (He did this to teach the Israelites who had not fought in those wars.) These are the nations the Lord left in the land:

These are the nations the Lord left to test Israel. They were left to test all those who had not fought in any of the wars in Canaan.

NOW these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them, even the Israelites who had not experienced all the wars of Canaan.
So then, the Lord left some nations in the land to test the Israelites who had not been through the wars in Canaan.
These are the nations which the Lord left, that by them he might instruct Israel, and all that had not known the wars of the Chanaanites:
Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had no experience of any war in Canaan;
And these are the nations which the Lord left to prove Israel with them, all that had not known the wars of Chanaan.
These are the nations the Lord left in order to test all those in Israel who had experienced none of the wars in Canaan.
Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Yisra'el by them, even as many [of Yisra'el] as had not known all the wars of Kana`an;
Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
These are the nations that Yahweh left, to test Israel by them (that is, to test all those who had not experienced any of the wars of Canaan,
And these are the nations which Jehovah left in order to test Israel by them, all who did not know all the wars of Canaan;
These are the nacions, whom the LORDE suffred to remayne, yt by them he mighte proue Israel, which had no vnderstondinge in the warres of Canaan:
These are the nations that God left there, using them to test the Israelites who had no experience in the Canaanite wars. He did it to train the descendants of Israel, the ones who had no battle experience, in the art of war. He left the five Philistine tyrants, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon from Mount Baal Hermon to Hamath's Pass. They were there to test Israel and see whether they would obey God 's commands that were given to their parents through Moses.
Now these are the nations that the LORD left, to test Israel by them (that is, all the Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars of Canaan;

Now these [are] the nations which the Lord left to prove Israel by them,.... Which are later mentioned, Judges 3:3;
[even] as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan; those that Joshua, and the people of Israel under him, had with the Canaanites, when they first entered the land and subdued it; being then not born, or so young as not to have knowledge of them, at least not able to bear arms at that time.

Even as many of Israel ... - These words show that the writer has especially in view the generation which came to man’s estate immediately after the close of the wars with the Canaanites Joshua 23:1. Compare Judges 2:10.

An account of the nations that we left to prove Israel, 1-4.
How the people provoked the Lord, 5-7.
They are delivered into the power of the king of Mesopotamia,
by whom they are enslaved eight years, 8.
Othniel is raised up as their deliverer; he discomfits the king
of Mesopotamia, delivers Israel, and the land enjoys peace for
forty years, 9-11.
They again rebel, and are delivered into the hand of the king
of Moab, by whom they are enslaved eighteen years, 12-14.
They are delivered by Ehud, who kills Eglon, king of Moab, and
slays ten thousand Moabites, and the land rests fourscore
years, 15-40.

Verse Judges 3:1. Now these are the nations — The nations left to prove the Israelites were the five lordships or satrapies of the Philistines, viz., Gath, Askelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gaza; the Sidonians, the Hivites of Lebanon, Baal-hermon, c. with the remains of the Canaanites, viz., the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, and Jebusites.
Those who were left to be proved were those Israelites that had not seen all the wars of Canaan.
