Psalms 58
There Is a God Who Judges on Earth
1 Do you indeed (F1)speak righteousness, O (F2)gods?
Do you (C1)judge (F3)with equity, O sons of men?
2 No, in heart you (C1)work unrighteousness;
On earth you (F1)(C2)prepare a path for the violence of your hands.
3 The wicked are estranged (C1)from the womb;
These who speak falsehood (C2)wander in error from (F1)birth.
4 They have venom like the (C1)venom of a serpent;
Like a deaf cobra that stops up its ear,
5 So that it (C1)does not hear the voice of (F1)(C2)charmers,
Or a skillful caster of spells.
6 O God, (C1)shatter their teeth in their mouth;
Break out the fangs of the young lions, O Yahweh.
7 Let them (C1)flow away like water that runs off;
When he (F1)(C2)aims his arrows, let them be as (F2)headless shafts.
8 Let them be as a snail which (F1)melts away as it goes along,
Like the (C1)miscarriages of a woman which never behold the sun.
9 Before your (C1)pots can feel the fire of thorns
He will (C2)sweep them away with a whirlwind, the living and the burning alike.
10 The (C1)righteous will be glad when he (C2)beholds the vengeance;
He will (C3)wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 And men will say, "Surely there is a (F1)(C1)reward for the righteous;
Surely there is a God who (C2)judges (F2)on earth!"
